Because Congress did not reach agreement on a deficit reduction plan last Fall, $1.2 trillion in Federal spending cuts are scheduled to begin in January. Will these cuts hurt or help the U.S. economy?

Ishady I don't know what religion had to do with flying cars. I'm an atheist nothing religious makes sense to me. We have the technology to make flying cars but to go though all the red tape and government BS would be almost impossible. (Fuel efficiency standards for example)

More ppl out of work means less of a tax base less spending. Austerity will not harm the recovery?

You ever wonder why Europe has better education, health care and less religious oppression today?

Didn't austerity harm Spain? Your party's massive cuts will they costs jobs and stop this recovery?

All those are still legal right? Oh not the pot

Ishady and you can blame your party for the lack of any moral compass and why people have no limits and life has no value. Now go fart in public role a joint and have yourself an abortion and we won't care.

ends up in inflation. If your the government thats good because your debt incurred actually becomes more manageable. Just get a wheelbarrow for the money you need when you go to the store, easy fix, right?

08/14/12 7:22 am

Whats happening in Greece, Italy, Spain is what happens to countries when you run out of other peoples money. In this case Germany isn't willing to loan them anymore of their Euros. China is signaling the U.S. that they are about at their limit which ends up with more QE action by the fed which

You can blame your party's silly religion for the lack of flying cars.

American sweatshops. That's what's needed here.

DanMaclean Michigan

Since we can't pay workers $0.20 per hour, how about we eliminate corporate income tax and remove complicated cumbersome regulations. Better yet leave the shitty jobs to China and let Americans do real work. I expected to have flying cars by now for example.

Idiot, WalMart is successful because they realized they can make products cheaper overseas. To get the jobs back, WalMart needs incentives to make products here.

How about the billions spent in Afghanistan? Does the GOP want to keep spending money overseas? Bring our troops home.

Idiot. The "Free Market" would gather all the money in the hands of those with the best advertising. Look at WalMart. The most destructive business to our economy.

The free market could reform the way they do things but we would need to deregulate. Politicians hate giving up power and control.

Incidentally it's only about $6tril in external debt. The other $10tril is money we stole from social security. THAT we'll write off when Soc Sec is ended.

NYEvo - bond sales are down, and several have been cancelled due to lack of buyers. China has cut its holdings from nearly $4tril to just over $1tril and seems headed to $0. Most of our debt is being purchased by the fed with printed money. The smart people are getting out of the way of the wreck..

The GOP has no intentions of fixing healthcare. More let the market fix itself policy.

Depends on what they cut. End the wars, cut military spending dramatically for starters. Medicare also needs to be addressed but first we need to reform heath care all together.

How could spend while in debt help

08/11/12 9:33 am

Hurt in the short term by putting people out of work. Theoretically good in the long term, assuming we can redesign the entitlement and defense program, both of which are broken.

better than making another bonehead 'stimulus' that puts us trillions more in debt.

i'd like to point out that no one is really banging down the treasury doorway trying to sell back 10 trillion bonds (aka our debt). If anything, they're buying more now than ever. Maybe for that reason its ok to cut a moderate amount of spending and slightly raise taxes. No need to tank the economy

Still wrong. Crashing more slowly is still crashing. Actually turning our spending crisis around would take cutting most ALL welfare, defense, social security, Medicare, Obamacare, education, farm subsidies, homeland security and fed bureaucracy. Small tax increases won't help. Ain't gonna ever

Lol @ "no more useless spending"

Get read up on the facts. Even THIS impending huge cut won't end deficit spending. We'll be going deeper in the hole more slowly. That's all.

So many don't seem to understand the DEPTH of our debt crisis.
