Not sure but I think they had a Henry rifle commercial during the Super Bowl.. Not sure how many millions television made from airing that program.. But if Comcast wants to lose that revenue, I suggest the board of directors get rid of whoever thought up this stupid idea

I can't recall ever seeing any gun or ammo commercials. Sort of like banning pager or cassette commercials isn't it?

I think it's probably a good move, all things considered. Legislation banning said advertising, however, is an entirely different story.

Then lets see if they will ban shows that have guns on them. If your gonna do it, dont stop just halfway. Its just a stupid tactic by our current administration. I suggest dropping comcast and go with dish to show them we dissaprove. But honestly, dont know if Ive ever seen a gun commercial.

There's Germany, France,China, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Australia, the Philippines , Ireland, the list goes on and on and on. Could be here all night naming countries. Also, a quick Wikipedia search shows that Mexico has much stricter gun laws than the US.

They should also ban ads for sodas larger than 16 oz. In all seriousness, gun commercials seem as pointless as drug commercials. I'm pro gun but don't really care about ads.

superguy

Barack Obama does all the advertisement that the gun industry needs! Lets also thank Dianne Fienstien, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Eric Holder...

I didn't know that they aired them before, but they're now on my list of companies boycotted for moronic stances on firearms.
The problem is a lack of familiarity with proper handling and safe use of firearms among our younger generations. Banning firearms commercials will only exacerbate that.

On the outdoor channels and stuff they air all the time. I guess that's just common sense, as people watching about guns want to buy them. But on the mainstream networks, I've never seen one either.

That's fine. The rest of us are sick and tired of gun lovers thinking they have a right to any and all types of guns at the expense of public safety. Oh, I also think pit bulls should be outlawed.

@iTeach, Great sarcasm there. I'm glad you're not serious. We should be allowed to peaceably own and use any weapon we so desire.

Fuck Comcast! They're just another group, funded by millionaires and billionaires, siding with the politicians. What do they expect to gain from this. Do advertisements featuring guns make people "sad". It's an inanimate object for crying out loud! Alcohol kills so many people, but I still see ads!

Its not like the example in the ad is killing a person, but im pretty indifferent about that overall, its not like people decide to buy guns through tv commercials (i didnt even know those commercials exsisted)

03/23/13 7:11 pm

I feel if they showed them, people would get all worked up. At the same time, mute the TV and look away.. It's an AD, not an hour TV special

No gun commercials but let's roll out cigarette commercials, abortion clinic commercials, alcohol commercials, violence, prescription drug commercials, the news (any channel), jersey shore, Jerry Springer (or any variation) and Reality Wives (or any variation). Seriously?! We need a priority check!

That's it? 1 of 9 points I made?! Oh boy! You showed me! Can't get one over on ole DrReid! Replace cigarettes with nicotine patch commercials but also add chemically laced soda, cereals, lunchables and candy targeted to kids. Were the others not worthy of comment or just too difficult to argue?

Its the effect a mixed economy, it's all or nothing, my point is that plenty of commercials, are shown and not shown, comcast espouses gun safety, as most Americans do, let it go.

honest
03/24/13 7:19 am

DrReid, gun safety has nothing to do with gun commercials. If they are related then we need to eliminate car commercials to decrease the number of automobile accidents.

They should stop showing tv that has guns and ammo too then. Let them see their ratings drop to the floor and then we can ask them if it was worth it. Weapons are a way of life as has been since the span of man. We have evolved to make better tools over time.

The best part is Hollywood is run primarily by democrats. They make so many films glorifying guns and violence and are the biggest hypocrites. I don't necessarily believe violent media causes violence but it has more of a effect on the mind than a gun by itself. And that's a fact jack!
