Here is a list of America’s best loved books. How many have you read from this list?
I read many. Over 20. I lost count. Does it count as two if I read “The Little Prince” and “Le Petit Prince”?!?!
I've read 7, I'm still pretty young though and haven't gotten into the more subtle writing though
24 off that list. I’m wondering how The Sirens of Titan became the one Vonnegut book on the list over Slaughterhouse Five and Cat’s Cradle.
A lot of people questioned why so many authors did not make the list.
I saw that they went for variety and it’s not a straight up popularity contest, but I thought it was weird that they named it “most beloved” and then skipped over the author’s two wildly popular books.
42 from that list (several are trilogies but only count as 1)
You must be reading the wrong books because you always have one in your hand! What are you reading now?
Nothing right now since we are traveling. But, I'll be at the library as soon as we return home!
I’ve read 8 books or series’.
The rest seem very old and boring. 😄
31 but I didn’t finish the Outlander series.
Since I read a lot of classics, I had expected the number to be higher. Oh well.
At the risk of sounding like a prude, I did not read Shades of Grey. I heard from many that it was very poorly written. IMO and from what I know of the book, it should not be on this list.
I didn’t read it either. There is too much quality work out there readily available to spend time with soft porn.
Anything you can recommend that’s out now?
Authors I read are Ken Follett, George Eliot (a personal favorite), Thomas Hardy, Dickens, Solzhenitsyn, ... still mostly classics with fun contemporary waiting-room mysteries - love a good mystery.
One needs a mix of literary work to read. Good stuff, fun stuff, and good fun stuff.
That’s a lot.
22, unless I've forgotten some. Some of those 22 would certainly not be on my list of favorites, and none of my very top picks is on their list.
Catcher in the Rye is on the list? Bleh
Some of these were required reading in school that kids didn’t want to read in the first place.
Required book to have on your person if you assassinate a radically popular musician or among the books in your hotel room should you assassinate a President, Mr. Caulfield.
33 not including the additional Tolkien or Rowling books.
That’s a lot. Some I don’t think of as “America’s favorites.”
Did you read Watchers? That was really good.
Nor do I. No, I didn’t read Watchers. Many were required reading for middle and high school and university classes.
Watchers is Steven King like. Very intense thriller. Excellent story about a dog.
15 for me.
I’m actually surprised. Was expecting a lot less.
About 3 are series.
I hit 20 in the G’s and stopped counting.
We have a winner!🏆
20, which surprises me.
Only 13ish if you count the series as one book. I have read 3 series listed...
I believe 10
17, but a few were multiple books. I'm surprised it was that many because I'm not a huge fiction reader.
Eleven, so far. I watched the show on PBS and have the list printed. I’ve read The Sun Also Rises, but bc it’s the hubs favorite, and I don’t remember it being that great, I’m rereading it. I’ve no interest in many of the books, but intend to read the ones about which I’m curious. I think it’s gonna take a while.
I know I wouldn’t like most of these books!
I believe I have read 8 of those. Guess I’ve got some reading to do!
To be honest, I have read a great many of the listed authors & titles, the newer titles though not so much, due to interest or are on my list to be read, but have yet to do so.....
I’ve seen the movie version of some but not read the book.
Here is a list of best loved American books. How many have you read?
Less than 20 or more than 20
