Insurance companies in many states across the US are raising health insurance premiums due to Trump and the Republicans' repeal of the individual mandate and their expansion of health plans that are exempt from Obamacare regulations. Thoughts?

We haven’t had insurance in about 25 years. We haven’t been able to afford it. We did try ACA for a few months about 3 years ago. It covered nothing and applied everything to the $13,000 deductible. We’re two fairly healthy adults with no kids. So I learn home remedies and we only go when we absolutely have to.

Suppressed ... you failed with ObamaDoesntCare and you will fail again with the pathetic push for universal healthcare. The government has NO business in healthcare. The government is inept and will only ruin it. How’s that VA healthcare working? Yep, the president had to just bail it out again, allowing vets to get real care more often because the VA is a pathetic government failure.

We need the government to get out of healthcare completely. The market will solve the mess regressive leftists have made!

Robert ... to be clear, I assume that you’re talking to Polster as I do not support MrO’s lie about the individual mandate. I do not in any way support government intrusion into my healthcare. They mess up everything they touch, and ObamaDoesntCare is a perfect example of how MrO screwed up healthcare.

The Supreme Court actually upheld the constitutionality of the individual mandate.

Yes and it was a bad ruling. Do you think the government has the right to force you to use a service?

Polster ... did MrO lie and say that the fascist mandate was not a tax and then did the flawed Supreme Court ruling expose the fact that MrO dishonestly argued to the Court that it was a tax?

As anything but a tax it is unconstitutional. As a tax, it is the first time in our country’s history that the government was allowed to force free citizens to purchase a product or pay an onerous tax. This is PRECISELY the type of capricious and punitive usury that we fought to free ourselves from in the Revolutionary War!

Thankfully, since we kicked the failed former president, MrO, to the curb, we have at least freed citizens from that part of the overreaching monstrosity that is ObamaDoesntCare!

The Supreme Court upheld the mandate. You need to get over it.

Polster ... and then the Congress corrected the flawed Supreme Court decision, didn’t they!!!

The folks who need to do the “getting over” are you mindless leftists who simply regurgitate the lies of MrO. Did MrO lie when he told us that the individual mandate was NOT a tax as he then argued it was a tax to the Supreme Court? You’re right, that’s one more of the MANY MrO lies that we no longer have to deal with as his legacy of lies is being dismantled.

Ah, the freedom is sweet!

No, I don’t support that decision. That is unrelated to the discussion we’re having. How did a conservative majority on the Supreme Court uphold the individual mandate’s constitutionality?

STONEYTJONES Indiana

Do you think the government guaranteeing insurance companies that we have to pay whatever they charge makes it decrease? Obviously not.
If they want people to buy their insurance they should have to compete with each other which will lower prices or they will fail.

Polster ... the government should collect taxes from all citizens proportionally to pay for constitutionally mandated items like an adequate defense of the nation, not to pay for the mentally ill to mutilate their bodies and not for lazy leftists to have homes and smartphones.

The government must also never compel citizens to participate in commerce. The government as no business telling anyone what type of insurance they must buy and certainly no business penalizing individuals who choose not to buy their corruptly mandated products!

Given that you love socialist programs, why don’t you philanthropically provide the funding for those programs for everyone?

Healthcare premiums have been skyrocketing for decades...which was exactly the impetus for the ACA. It’s just that the Congress sold out to the insurance companies and then Trump did the rest.

But high premiums and profits at the expense of the people is exactly what Trump wants.

DJ13
06/08/18 9:06 am

Suppressed, it's what most republicans want. Otherwise they would be for single payer or at least a public option. That is the only way to slow down or cut the skyrocketing prices...

Think Lovin Life
06/08/18 9:16 am

Suppressed ... you’re an idiot if you think that’s what MrT wants. If we’re going to focus on wants, I’m amazed that you left out MrO’s wants. It was MrO who wanted to crush the best healthcare system, which he did. MrO wanted to force us into a single payer government second class care. He almost achieved that horrible objective. Costs for care have risen over the years, but not nearly as abruptly as after MrO’s albatross when passes in the dark of night in a mafia style that only Democrats could be proud of.

Thankfully, MrT has broken the chains of ObamaDoesntCare.

Think Lovin Life

DJ ... I can’t speak for Republicans, but I want the government out of my healthcare completely. I’ve lived all over the world, in several countries with regressive government healthcare. Not one of my local colleagues every had anything positive to say about their government healthcare, the vast majority who can afford it purchase personal healthcare so as to be able to avoid the second class care.

We have our own failed government healthcare — the model for ObamaDoesntCare — the VA healthcare, which is a disgusting failure. It is Democrats who want to build the government albatross to force citizens into their box and eliminate freedom.

“[The Congress shall have Power] To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes."

Again, please explain how this Clause grants the enumerated power to the federal government to compel an individual citizen to buy a product.
