Just my two cents: this war on opioids is leaving some people in pain. I’m currently suffering from a ruptured disc in my neck and was told by my doctor yesterday that I can’t get a prescription unless I set an appointment for surgery and I just can’t get surgery now nor do I even feel comfortable that that’s my only option. Opioids were overprescribed before and underprescribed now. Why can’t we solve problems without swinging wildly in one direction or the other?

In many ways I agree with you. I’m in constant pain due to 6 chronic health conditions, though, and I’ve NEVER been offered opioids, thankfully. I can’t even take Tylenol and Advil due to taking so much in the past that it’s brought down my kidney/liver function.

I just have to make do with muscle rubs and a heat wrap that I made that I put in the microwave.

I know a disk problem before, and the doctor I was sent to in Birmingham told me that these problems often work themselves out and repair themselves, given time. I went into his office, worried that he was going to say I had to have surgery, and a couple of months later, I was fine. I was in excruciating pain from my neck, down my shoulder and all the way down my arm to my fingers. It alternated between pain and numbness. But I was NOT given opioids.

Have you tried a chiropractor? That has always helped me. I’ve had disk problems, (both lumbar and cervical) & sciatica, & chiropractors helped a LOT!

Well the opioid has been the only thing that has worked since it started becoming severely painful 3 years ago. For some reason, the pain almost completely goes away from around November to around May if I don’t reinjure it with strenuous activity. And even then, it’s temporary pain in those months. But when the pain becomes severe, it is almost impossible to get to sleep and sometimes get out of bed without the painkiller. This year it hit me so hard that I became convinced that it was something more serious than just a ruptured disc. I’m still not sure really but they said my mri just showed a “badly ruptured disc”. I’m really just worried that a chiropractor might make it worse. But I guess I might give it a try, especially since I might not get relief from the pain now. I will say that I now at least understand how someone would turn to the black market even if they aren’t addicts. Although I definitely won’t do that.

That’s weird. I’ve never heard of anyone having disk pain that comes and goes with the seasons like that. If it was pain that was worse in the winter I would actually think you have some kind of arthritis instead! Lol

I’m so sorry. I know how pain wears you down. I’ve been dealing with mine since the late 70’s.

Now I’m back to being worried again 😐 I don’t know why it does that either. None of the doctors that I’ve been to could explain that one.

Sorry...didn’t mean to worry you. Have they ever tried steroid blockers (shots) to numb the pain?

I have tried the intramuscular steroid shots but not the epidural or whatever. Idk. I might just try the chiropractor until I can make a decision on surgery. Hopefully they don’t hurt me worse. 😬 Thanks for talking with me about it. 😃

If I were you, I’d make sure to ask if they take x-rays first, since you have a disk problem, so they can see what’s going on. Some chiropractors do this, and others don’t.

You’re welcome! I pray that you can get some relief!

3) The ceremony included performances of the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America by the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus. With the full Philadelphia Eagles football team unable to come to the White House for a commemoration of their Super Bowl championship, President Trump welcomed Eagles fans and others for a different kind of celebration.

4) 500 days fighting the scourge of drugs

As the Administration reached its 500-day milestone this week, the White House is looking back at a few of the most consequential issues that President Trump has faced early in his term. Among the most severe crises he has confronted is America’s opioid epidemic.

The President launched a nationwide effort to combat the opioid crisis that concentrated on three things: reducing demand, cutting off illicit drug supplies, and expanding treatment opportunities. The omnibus spending bill President Trump signed earlier this year dedicates nearly $4 billion to meeting the epidemic head-on.

5) The U.S. Border Patrol continues working to stop drug supplies before they reach our communities, seizing more pounds of fentanyl—a highly addictive and frequently trafficked opioid—so far in Fiscal Year 2018 than in all of FY 2017. The Department of Justice secured its first-ever indictments against Chinese fentanyl manufacturers who target their drugs to American citizens.

Five hundred days in, President Trump continues to make our communities safer. Read more here:
