Would you rather live during Ancient Rome or during the Renaissance?
Renaissance. I would be an Italian mercenary like Cesare Borgia
I’m going with indoor toilets in Ancient Rome.
Yes, but also get to drink water from lead pipes
As long as I don’t have to duck from fecal matter being tossed out windows. Assuming I don’t die of malaria first before being poisoned by lead.
That's how Hannibal died...he took a chamberpot to the head. 💩💥😱
"Yes, but also get to drink water from lead pipes"
Been there...probably done that....
We've all probably done that...at least to a lesser degree. There aren't many water distribution systems that don't have lead pipes somewhere.
Ancient Rome by far! In fact, other than now or in the future, Ancient Rome wins...it was an amazing civilization with a very high level of culture, luxury, and opportunity for those with the courage and the attributes to carpe diem.
I think the Romans bathed more.
I could do well for myself in the empire, probably.
Well, duh, you’re a Prince 👑.
Rome in the early 2nd century.
The Renaissance would still be too much dominated by persecution of the scientific view. I wouldn't want the problems Galileo had.
Did the Renaissance have orgys too?
Only if you knew the right people.
During the Black Death there was mass orgies between everyone who was infected
I’m going to go with Rome. I don’t want to bang dying chicks.
If by the right people, you mean the pope's family, then yes.
Leo X and Alexander VI were the best popes.
Well, first, that's not an orgy of infected people.
It's an orgy of people who think it's the apocalypse, some of whom may have been infected, but it's not stated in either source.
Second, neither source provides evidence, just makes claims. Where does this information come from?
I DID mean the Pope's family, actually.
Also worth noting, the black death was Middle ages, not Renaissance.
Look man this just what I learned in school not an expert on it. But if you think about it makes sense, why wouldn’t you have an orgy?
Because the black death was really painful, and sexual activity can be difficult when one is just sick, let alone rotting alive and exploding from both ends.
Ohhh! That’s hot!
Also, curious, what the hell school did you go to that taught you about death orgies?
Yeah I want to go to that school
My high school Mayne. Learned about the Black Death and knew there were massive orgies at the time, and that people lost there faith and started hating Jews. Chaos. If I had the early stage of the plague I’m going out to an orgie sorry.
If you knew you had it, you probably wouldn't be able to.
If you didn't know you had it, then you'd just be a person going to an orgy, as far as you're concerned.
I sincerely doubt that.
Then you underestimate the severity of the black death, lol.
Or severely overestimate your sexual ability.
Man you guys are real boner killers
Bro I’m an animal
In that you have a brain with the complexity of a blank piece of paper and the sexual skill to pump twice in the tune of several seconds before blasting your knob?
Under pagan Rome I would be persecuted for being Christen.
Renaissance might be a bit strict for me, but as a catholic at least I would fit in.
Rome became Christian. 2. Pagans never systematically persecuted Christians the way Christians persecuted pagans
I agree, Jedi. I’d want to stay as far from Ancient Rome as possible!
I’ve never heard of any Christians throwing pagans to wild animals as a sporting event to cheer on!
To your first point, I took "Ancient Rome" to be before it's christianization.
Even if I were to plop down after the emperor converted it was still a very volatile time.
To the second point, 4JC took the words right out of my mouth.
Well said, Jedi! Of course, America is reaching that point, when we see a crowd cheering on a woman who talks about her BEST abortion! Maybe we’ve even gone BEYOND the point that Ancient Rome was at, since babies have no choice in the matter, whereas Christians chose to follow Christ, knowing that they would most likely die for their faith.
There is also the fact that as the empire decayed pagans invaded, sacking, and raising roman towns.
It may not have been because if their religion, but it was savage nonetheless.
As you said 4JC, America is suffering now for certain. I see certain disturbing mirrors between our current society, and Rome before it's fall. Unrestricted immigration, unsustainable taxation, so on and so forth.
It’s probably an ignorant statement but the Renaissance is too close to the dark ages for me. I would rather live during a time when we still had the freedom to live as savages than live in the shittiest time of progress when the government oppresses everyone, religion is law, and we’re just educated enough to make great advancements in technology but not educated enough to make them comfortable. The Renaissance is probably the smarter choice though.
