As we head into summer it’s fair season in Wisconsin. What do you enjoy more at a fair? The food or the rides?
Mostly the sights and sounds these days.
The little booths. Now that I’ve started eating better, fair food doesn’t really appeal to me. I don’t like rides. I get motion sickness from a rocking chair.
What are some booths you enjoy?
The crafts, games, and whatever cute little things I can buy for our nieces, nephews, and friends’ kids.
I like throwing darts at balloons.
When I was 10...rides. When I was 20...food. Today....music. Love catching has-been acts on the cheap. Saw Kenny Loggins and Eddie Money last summer. Have second row tix for Styx this year.
Definitely the food.
What do look forward to?
Cups of gravy fries, elephant ears, hot dogs, caramel apples, cotton candy, caramel corn, kettle corn, the usual. Pretty much all of it except scones, which I just don’t like, and funnel cakes, which I just don’t like very much.
At the Minnesota State Fair you can buy a bucket of Sweet Martha’s Chocolate Chip Cookies. Nummy!
I always get a sno cone to cool off.
A bucket of cookies and a SnoCone would be good too!
What’s one you really enjoyed?
Needlework. It’s a small county fair. I like to walk around and visit and see the exhibits and the vendors
Do they give out blue ribbons for needlework? Do you compete?
They do. And I have. I won ribbons for my sewing for my daughter when she was little. And I won a ribbon for a quilt. I haven’t done of food one for a long time. It’s quite a long ways from where we live to the fair.
Deep fried cheese curds at the fair. We can’t live forever. Might as well enjoy the time we have.
Have you ever had Ellsworth cheese curds from Ellsworth, WI?
You mean those delicious globs of cheese they serve at the Ellsworth Cheese Curd Festival? The answer is a resounding YES!
OMG num! 😺
Neither, just animal and people watching.
I love the animals too, especially the babies!
In my old age I can’t handle fair rides anymore 🤢 Plus it’s totally an excuse to eat anything fried. I want to try fried cheesecake.
Fair food doesn’t mix well with the rides.
When I was young I could handle the rides but now I get dizzy and nauseous.
I love the huge pickle! Lol Our local county fair sells a $5 milkshake that is so nummy! Lol
I’m my old age the only rides I can really handle anymore are roller coasters. 👵🏼😂
I love the giant turkey legs at the NC state fair. Disgustingly large but so delicious.
I’ve seen those on Good Mythical Morning on YouTube but I haven’t noticed them at the fair.
They are obscene but delicious.
I enjoy the big pickles and chicken dinners.
You’re making me hungry. Our fair has an awesome chicken dinner.
Our county fair puts on a nice chicken dinner. The ladies from local churches know what they are doing. It smells so good it draws you to their stand.
The graduating class of Myrtle Point high school puts on a barbecue chicken dinner. We’ve gotten it for quite a few years.
