UN Personnel have been Accused of Raping or Abusing 60,000 Women and Children. Time to cut them loose and quit the UN?
Not innocent until proven guilty?? Or is it because the atrocities happen in a foreign country and not ours? Or is it because if war DOES break out and for some world-wide decision the UN is sent to intercede in the war in the US and we want to make sure that our people aren't brutalized?
What sense does it make to leave one of the very few international meetings that our country is still a member of? If we end up being the last country "going it alone" like we have since Bush, then that just us a prime target to be taken over. Refusing to talk with other countries just adds to the divisions in the world/US/American Politics. We need friends - now more than ever.
You mean bad people took to establishments with near ultimate power to inflict their immoral behavior, weird. Who would have guessed?
US military personnel do the same thing
That’s weird. I haven’t heard anything since the My Lai massacre in 1968. What have I missed? You do that we police that pretty well. I’m sure that they’re some criminals in every army. But The UN actually promotes it.
It happens all the time at Okinawa, for example. Elsewhere too, of course, but that's a famous example because the Japanese protests against it sometimes reaches our news.
And we prosecute them to the full extent of the law. The UN troops are no different than the roving mobs of rapists murderers they are supposed to be protecting you from. And mostly in Africa. How can we spend millions of dollars to support them and not police them better?
there are national security considerations as well because the waste is likely going to fund terrorism. At just half a percent of what it spends on defense, U.S. spending on UN peacekeeping may seem like a good value, he said, but of the $3.4 billion the U.S. spends on the UN, a third goes to procurement of goods and services in places plagued by corruption. In three countries where the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) funds NGOs, seventy to seventy-nine percent of UN aid went missing to fraud. Somalia ranks highest on Transparency.org’s corruption index with virtually no functioning government that is run by groups associated with international terrorism such as al-Shabaab.
Very interesting as the school where the lecture is being held was founded by a former UN employee.
