As a child, were you ever left behind or forgotten somewhere? (Think of Home Alone.)
When I was 7 years old, I came home @7-8 o’clock. My family had been evicted and the doors padlocked.
They came back for me 3 days later. I got food from a dumpster behind a restaurant, and stole a blanket from a homeless guy. Slept under the front porch.
To top it off I got beat for not being there when they left.
Childhood is so much fun😂✌️
Honey they were so awful! You deserved so much more!
They belonged in jail.
They were both in jail at different times for different reasons...
Really, my past (either good, bad, or indifferent) is what has made me into the person I am today. I’ve used my life lessons to teach and guide my children to be good people.
You have wisdom, strength and a heart of gold! You are a treasure!
Now ya got me blushing 😘
Awe you’re precious! 🤗😘
No, but I'm sure there were times when I was acting up she wanted to leave me somewhere. 😁
I got lost at a ski resort when I was little.
Did strangers bring you to someone to page for your parents?
No. My dad went back up on the chairlift and eventually found me at the bottom with a worker.
Were you warm enough?
I remember it vaguely. Not sure.
Yup. My mom dropped me off at my babysitters (this would have been before I was in kindergarten) like she did every morning and left. The problem was she forgot the sitter was out of town for the week. I sat on the front steps crying until a neighbor came over to see what was up and called my grandmother.
She didn’t bring you inside? Dang!
Oh yeah, she did bring me in and gave me cookies until my grandmother got there
No, I meant your Mom didn’t make sure you were indeed all set with the babysitter inside the home?
Lol! Oh! No. She never did. After that she did.
Lesson learned then! Dang! Call me overprotective but I would never drop my kids off.
My kid is 16 and I still make sure he’s in the door before I leave if I have to drop him off somewhere
I was the same way. I just didn’t like them out of my sight.
I can’t remember any time that I was, or my brother either.
You’re lucky. It’s a scary feeling.
I can only imagine. And it may have happened but I’ve just blocked it from my memory. There’s no one left to ask, either, except my brother, and he’s five years younger. It seems unlikely that he’d remember and I would have forgotten.
My sister was supposed to pick me up from school. Boy, did she get in trouble when my dad got home.
Yeah that’s awful to be stuck at school. It’s bad enough spending the day there.
My mom forgot to pick me up from school once. I walked home.
How long of walk?
It was only 2 miles. It felt longer when I was in elementary school.
That’s young to walk home alone. Did you find out what happened?
I did. One of my brothers got sick and my mom lost track of time. It happens.
Yeah, I bed she felt bad.
Not like Home Alone, but left waiting out in front of the school for about two hours past when they said they’d pick me up, long enough to have seriously considered just walking home (it was only about five miles), but I didn’t want to take the beating I'd have gotten for not waiting. I never did find out why they were so late, and I knew better than to ask, since I didn’t want to take the beating for that either.
Were you beaten often?
Seemed like it at the time, but it was really probably only once or twice a week. A combination of being a slow learner, and being really, really, "intractable".
That’s awful! I’m sorry you were treated that way.
My stepdad always hit me over the head and swore at me. I grew to hate him.
It’s hard to stay positive about people who are just such miserable people they have to take it out on others. Bullies are bullies, there’s no fixing them.
I have him no reason to other than I was born. I can’t control where I came from.
We are better people today because we overcame them. 😺
My sister and I were left in a hot car a few times, windows were down so it made it more bearable. Felt like hours, but looking back at it I never really know how long it was.
Did you get to feeling sick?
One summer while we were haying on the farm I went with Mom and my older sister to pick up some things in town. We stopped at the DQ to bring back dilly bars for everyone because it had been such a hot day. I asked Mom if I could use the bathroom while they bought the dilly bars. When I got out of the bathroom Mom’s car was gone. She forgot I was in the bathroom. I went looking for her and she eventually came back and was very upset she forgot me.
