Do you typically buy birthday cakes or make them?
As a kid, I used to make them. Now , my sister does everything. I'm too fat to make it. I'd eat the batty 😔
Eat the batty? 🤭🤭🤭
It's eat the batter silly.. fat fingers strike again
Angel food cake doesn’t have as many calories and tastes great with fresh berries.
Store-bought cakes suck.
Not DQ CAKES 🎂
I make them but it’s getting harder and harder to put the attention to detail in them that I need. I’m buying one for my son’s birthday.
When the girls got to about that 12 year mark home made was no longer good enough. So they ordered what they wanted at the bakery.
I actually debated making one today or buying one for my dad. I think I’m going to try my hand at a German chocolate cake with chocolate filling and chocolate frosting. If anyone has an issue, they can go screw.lol
Have them made but don’t buy them
Who makes them for free?
My daughter has wanted a cheesecake for her birthday since she was about 14, so whenever we’ve been together on or near her birthday I’ve made one for her. She picks one from a small booklet of cheesecake recipes published in 1981 that I’ve managed to hang on to all these years. My son-in-law has started asking for a cheesecake for his birthday too. We’re not always together for his birthday, but I’m always more than happy to make it for him.
I’ve made other more traditional cakes for birthdays in the past, but not for some years, and not since I moved to Colorado.
That’s a fun idea to create a cheesecake for birthdays.
My Mom made me an angel food cake and we cut it into layers with whipped cream and strawberries in between each layer and on top. It’s very delicious. I love that or a marble cake with chocolate frosting and we come up with different decorations on it each time.
Both of those sound very good too. I love just about any kind of cake.
I crave cake sometimes. I love that they sell small sections of cake in the bakery.
Buy because I don’t know how to make an allergy free cake yet.
If OIT works, we can make them again.
What allergies are you dealing with besides the nuts? And are items “processed in a plant that processes tree nuts/peanuts” etc. also an issue?
Just the peanuts and walnuts. We don’t use anything that may have the been made in a facility warning.
I would think that whole issue - the allergies in general, not the baking thing specifically - must be both scary and frustrating for you guys. I hope the OIT thing proves to be a good solution.
Almost every time I made a cake, it was from a box. I’ve never made a cake from scratch. It is just a matter of how the cake mix is prepared.
We had to suspend OIT because Alex has been puking over the last week. Since we stopped, his puking has reduced. We are going to try again once this resolves. We just move up slower.
The flu has been going around. I hope he feels better.
I did see something about puking (on FB), but didn’t catch anything that might have explained it, and wondered...
I hope that’s all over soon and he can continue with the OIT.
I was running a low grade fever and feeling crummy last week a few days. So were a few friends of mine.
Snagglepuss, no fever or other signs of being sick. We were told that there was something going around though.
Could have been food poisoning too.
How’s your little fella doing?
He threw up again yesterday. Once it was over, he was fine. I’m staying home with him today.
We hope to get a note from his doc that will allow him to stay in school even if he throws up. The note just needs to say that he isn’t contagious. His doc knows he isn’t.
Dq ice cream cake
Yum! I’ve made a lot, I mean a lot of those. Like 20 to 40 a day.
It’s so fun to make them!
Do you decorate them?
Yes. The birthday boy/girl’s choice. They help!
It’s fun to bake with the kids. They get so excited.
We bought some pillsbury biscuits and cheese and different miniature pizza toppings and helped the grandkids make their own mini pizzas and decorate cupcakes for the last birthday party at my Mom’s house. We all had so much fun! 😺
No birthday cakes in my home except for mine. I don't believe in birthday cakes.
Yes. But such a treat!
In truth each member is gifted their favorite cake!
Lemon! I love lemon! 😺
Intense lemon. The stronger the better.
I often squeeze a lemon wedge on lemon pound cake.
My lemon tree produced a 1,000 lemons this year. The secret. Never trim it back!
Do you contribute to the lemons in the grocery stores?
Scouts pick and sell them for project money.
Are you a scout leader?
Previously Pack Committee Chair- current responsibilities prevent active participation but the scouts use the property pretty regularly.
That’s cool. Do they do all the work with you or for you?
They are expected to leave the place clean when they are done. That's about it. The lemons are just a fun donation. The tree grows more than all my friends n family can use.
Do you make a lot of fresh squeezed lemonade?
16 oz water, squeeze of lemon. Several lemon slices. No sugar.
You must be very healthy!
Happy to be so.
Enjoy my career
Love my family

Healthy living makes life more joyful.
That and an open mind to life's greatest entertainments.
Mostly make, except in summer when buying one is the only rational choice.
In the summer I sometimes buy DQ cakes.
We still do that too, and sometimes I make them here by getting one of the 5qt buckets of ice cream and slicing it in half across the belt line. Waalaa, two cakes, ready to be decorated with canned frosting, Cool Whip, Reddi-Whip, and food coloring. It works just as well to start with a half-gallon brick sliced in half the long way across the narrow dimension and placing the halves side by side to make a small sheet cake. I haven’t tried to slice them thinner to make layers - it’s tough enough to slice them once without slicing me in the process.
Yikes! That sounds like a great idea but I probably would hurt myself.
I used to decorate cakes at DQ. It’s a lot easier with soft serve lol.
Now I have to try this:
I want to try that too. I just need some cold fudge and Oreo cookies to crush! Home made DQ cake! 😺
I'm thinking of tossing in some M&Ms or crushed Oreos for home made blizzards.
You could crush up the M&Ms too. I loved grinding candy for blizzards. Especially king size snickers!
Wizzod making a blizzod! Lol
Now I have to invent one worthy of the name.
I have confidence in you! 🧙♂️
I always make birthday cakes. Statgat wants the exact same bundt cake year by year. My sons surprise me. The teens make different choices now, but my littlest guy still wants fun cakes. Last year, he wanted a chocolate cake that looked like a pumpkin. Fun!
That sounds fun! I have a silicone giant cupcake. It’s fun to bake and decorate.
Ooh, I believe it! So far, my favorite cakes have been the choo choo trains. I used mini loaf pans to make the engine and cars, Oreos for the wheels, and candy for the cargo. So fun!
I never had boys before but now that I have a grandson I can try fun ideas like that! 😺
For the last birthday we made a tiramisu. 🤤
I’m not a fan of coffee but was it fun to make?
Mine would probably taste like sawdust. No one would want that. Been buying cookie cakes lately. Something different.
They are really good.
I do like to bake, so I mostly make them.
Do you also like to decorate them?
I’m not good at decorating, I let my daughter do that part.
I’m more of a bake and eat kinda guy😄🌹
I used to decorate DQ cakes so I enjoy the baking and the decorating.
The owner at DQ paid for my Cake Decorating Class at the Chippewa Valley Technical College. Woot!
Idk what I do on birthdays. I normally just go to the fish fry.
Fish fry? Do you have a regular hangout?
What’s it like?
My Mom and I used to go to the Mondovi Inn every Friday night but they changed owners.
It’s just a small place. Looks like a dump a little lol
Lol but you love the food and the atmosphere?
Yes, they have love for my favorite teams. The food is excellent. I don’t vouch for many places, but I will for this one.
So they have TVs and people come to eat and watch the game?
There is a bar and grill my hubby and I went to once in Prescott, Wisconsin, that really get into football. One side of the bar dresses in Packer clothes and the other in Viking clothes. If they aren’t playing they decide which team to support and egg each other on. It’s all in good fun from what I could tell. They appeared to be regulars. It was entertaining to watch them.
No, people only go for the fish fry. It’s only opened four days a week with certain hours.
No TVs in the place.
How do you know they have a love for your favorite teams?
Oh I see! 💡
