Yes, read it decades ago when it was first available in paperback. Left a lasting impression.

I read it long ago, I think in the mid ‘60s just a few years after it was first published.

I read it in 1963 as an 8th grader. It made a lasting impression on me as the city I lived in was all white. One of the first books to shape my political outlook.

Me, too.
I had a friend whose uncle tanned easily and darkly. He went south with a group from church (?) during the early 60s. He said there was an instance of him not being allowed to do something because he was thought to be black.

I wonder if the book, “Black Like Me” was based on truth or was it fictional?
