Have you read/ heard of “Black Like Me” by John Howard Griffin?
Heard of, don’t remember reading.
Yes, read it decades ago when it was first available in paperback. Left a lasting impression.
I read it long ago, I think in the mid ‘60s just a few years after it was first published.
I read it in 1963 as an 8th grader. It made a lasting impression on me as the city I lived in was all white. One of the first books to shape my political outlook.
I had a friend whose uncle tanned easily and darkly. He went south with a group from church (?) during the early 60s. He said there was an instance of him not being allowed to do something because he was thought to be black.
I wonder if the book, “Black Like Me” was based on truth or was it fictional?
It was a personal account of true experiences
I read it in high school. Great book.
I have heard of it, but never read it.
Read it several years ago.
Still in my old bookshelf at my parents house
I read the book in college. Very interesting.
It was around/ shortly after my college era when I read it too. Was it an assignment or a chosen read?
Tbh, I'm not sure. It was in my freshman year.
