This is a very uncommon occurrence. However, if found to be falsely accusing someone they should be prosecuted.

I wouldn't label them sex offenders because they haven't been convicted of a sexual offense; however, there should be punitive measures taken for the libel, slander, or both that they have committed. This might include a mandatory (perhaps public) recant of their claims, payment of damages in civil court, or some kind of probationary period.

No. Sure, it sounds good... but we have laws and do not live under an “eye for an eye” system. I’m not sure what specific charge would be put forth, but it’s not sexual.

That’s not how that works. To be a sex offender, you need to commit a sex crime. False accusers should be punished, but that’s just stupid.

These false accusers have absolutely committed a crime that was sexual and deserve the label,of sex offender, so as to protect and alert society.

Since the term “sex offender” implies something pretty specific, I don’t think it would be a proper description of their crime, but they should most certainly be punished.

This is one case in which I think we should take a cue from Old Testament law and the false accuser should be given the same punishment as the one they accused.

False rape accusers should not be considered sex offenders for the same reason that the boy who cried wolf shouldn’t be considered a wolf himself.

Lefty ... the harm that is caused by the false rape charges are significant, and demand a significant deterrent.

I definitely think they should be punished to the fullest possible extent of the law, especially if it’s malicious. I’m sure there are several different charges that sit there -filing a false report, slander and libel, etc.- things like that. Because they’ve all but ruined the poor mans life, and in the process discredited any real victims.

Not a sex offender, but it should still be punished

At the very least they should be prosecuted and forced to pay reparations

They shouldn’t be labeled sex offender. They should just serve jail time.

If there's proof that it was malicious, then there should be some punishment for slander, but being labeled a sex offender doesn't seem accurate.
