From my walk today. My husband says pedestrian lights “Do Not Walk “are only suggestions you don’t have to obey them. I so you can receive a citation for disobeying them. What do you think?
If there’s no cars coming, it’s ok to cross. Jaywalking is one of those outdated, rarely-enforced laws similar to car window tint or smoking marijuana in public.
I clicked law but you bet if theirs a completely open intersection and I’d have to wait to walk through the pedestrian light it’s turning into a suggestion.
Is it a law? I see lots of people that make a dash at the last second. I know I don’t start across if it’s down to 10 because it takes me a while to walk from one corner to the next.
.
I notice pedestrian signs on most new signals even in the suburbs. You probably won’t get a J walking citation in the burbs but if you get run over the driver if off free.
No different than a red light if you’re driving. Not that those aren’t treated as just suggestions by a lot of drivers here. And probably close to all bicyclists.
Failure to obey traffic control devices. Yes it's illegal and definitely not a suggestion. That being said, it's extraordinarily unlikely for you to be cited for that.
I think someone actually was cited for it here. They do stings, for pedestrian safety. That goes both ways. I know a couple years ago a couple threw themselves in front of a car so they could sue them or something. They got cited and arrested after they got out of the hospital.
