I find veganism to be annoying and preachy.

I support the ability of people to chose to be vegans without harassment or judgement. I don’t support vegans who have a holier than thou attitude, but that’s kind of a separate issue for me.

Veganism is genocide. It puts a some organisms, animals, above all the others, and justifies killing one specific type of organism, plants, by saying that they are inferior. Vegans cannot act as though plants are not alive when studies have shown that they do indeed experience things like pain. We need to understand that humans have to kill in order to eat. There is no hierarchy of “better organisms”, as killing anything is immoral. It is a sad fact of life, but one that we must face.

I’m not vegan, but what about vegans who eat it because they think it’s a healthier diet, not because they think killing animals is wrong?

That’s a different story. I have no problem if you don’t justify a hierarchy of living things with a moralistic approach. If it is in the name of health then it is fine. I just really don’t like when vegans use a solely moral argument for their diet, as it is both wrong and self-righteous.

I also think that the whole movement stems from miss repsentation of the meat industry. Vegans paint processing plants and even the farmers as evil people that torture animals. That isn't anywhere close to true. Being inhumane is inefficient and leads to bad production. Everything is done as humane as possible.
Also, meat production is the evolutionary purpose of these animals. What else do we do with all of them if we stop eating them?

A HUGE part is the vegan movement has nothing to do with animal treatment. Many vegans do so solely because of the health benefits of eating a plant-based diet. I've seen firsthand these benefits, so there are definitely some legitimate reasons to follow a vegan diet.

I've never heard of people doing it for that reason. Its always some 14 year old girl crying over seeing a video of a cow being mistreated

Then I'd have to say you are not fully informed on veganism. I know I wasn't six months ago.

There's a good chance I'm not. Rural farming culture is basically anti vegan

Sure, why not? Why would I care about how others eat?

My husband has recently (last six months) become vegan after almost dying from a heart attack. Well, to be truthful, he is about 95% vegan as every once in a while he'll eat something that may have a little dairy or meat. For example about two weeks ago he had some soup that had a little chicken in it. It is not true that it is more expensive to be vegan. In fact, our grocery bill has gone way down in the past six months and it is even much cheaper for us to eat out at a restaurant. So, being vegan is no more expensive (and I'd even say it is cheaper) than eating a full diet.

Just curious, what all does your husband eat that's so cheap? Vegan diets ive heard about demand a lot of organic produce and proteins, which arent cheap. Organic normally costs double.

No, being vegan doesn't mean you have to buy organic although some vegans do buy organic. Regardless, buying plant-based food is still cheaper than buying meats and dairy. I'm saying this from experience.

I'll have to look a little closer at that when I'm at the store next time

Yes, not a vegan myself but vegan meals usually require less reasources. Meaning we can feed our population more efficiently.

I neither oppose nor support it. I think the notion is nice from a humane and environmental perspective, but I think veganism and animal rights in general needs to work more towards creating coherent political goals instead of just nice statements and naïve beliefs that the world will change when a couple people boycott meat.

Completely agreed. I am a huge supporter of veganism. I think it’s great for your health, but many of the arguments made for it are way too emotional.
