Very optimistic for the world, as the world will do just fine without human intervention. Guardedly optimistic for humanity, because while we are on the whole (temporarily, I hope) failing miserably at being humane here, decent people in other parts of the world are to at least some extent making up for it.

Antonio Gramsci's famous quote seems relevant here: "Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will." That is, rationally, when observing the world, we can't but be pessimistic. Yet, we are determined to remain optimistic in order to motivate ourselves to continue to struggle for a new world each day.
