Do you think the United States is changing for the better or worse? (UserQ)
bliggs you forgot history even though I'm sure you are old enough to look it up! The democrats also signed off it, after all it was a bi-partisan vote. Even Obama and the democrats currently just voted to keep the ugly surveillance portions of the patriot act!
palindrome I totally agree :)
True. None of our presidents are good at anything...
Palindrome ... since you like old Ben, you'll enjoy this one, as it relates DIRECTLY to MrO. Ben Franklin also said: "He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else"
What's funny is that the republicans are the least confident and yet it's their own party that introduced the patriot act and did way with habeas corpus. Doesn't make much sense.
Well said Palindrome! Here is another one if my favorite quotes! "If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.". - James Madison
Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both
- Benjamin Franklin
This country started going downhill after Sept. 11.
After that it was just one constitutional right and obligation after another getting trampled on... Bush jr's administration really did a number on us :/
@GunnySgt: Could it be because their idea of compromise is when everyone agrees with them?
The republicans and capitalist pigs are ruining this planet....
Why do the democrats get to call repubs the party of no? The 2 sides have differing views, but who is to say the liberal side is the correct one? And who is to say the repubs views are correct? Quite the problem we have on our hands.
@jopat: legislation is like a used car salesman... Would you buy a car from "Honest" Bob? No... If he needs to use the word honest, it is because he isn't. Like calling a bald man curly. Affordable... NOT!
CBO now says the Affordable Health Care Act won't be so affordable! Comes in at twice what we were told. Anyone surprised?
What country has the largest untapped supply of oil? Just goggle it for yourself, you will be pleasantly surprised!
oh, it's the GOP's fault! oh, it's the liberals! it's a lot more than one party. it's a lot more than one branch of the government. part of it is people pointing fingers rather than working toward a solution.
Has Obama ever admitted he has been wrong? It's always Bush republicans, speculators, congress, never HIM!
Obama BLAMES speculators... sorry
Speculators think there will be less oil due to Obama polices, and they act on that belief. Obama names the speculators to divert attention from his failure to present an energy policy.
Ih dear! We republicans aren't the most optimistic bunch, for sure!
This is the change Obama promised more debt and higher gas prices. Thanks Obama
Note: I am not a racist
I am sick and tired of the Obama administration and liberals bringing up all of this racism drama and how all of the money from the 1% (the people that are successful in life and got a good education) to the African Americans (defiantly not all) and others that do nothing
All you stupid liberals are the ones ruining it
If Ron Paul isn't elected, much much worse. It's a fact that the other 3 GOP republicans and Obama are corrupt. There's nothing you can dig u on Ron Paul.He has only changed one of his opinions, the death penalty, because rich get out of it and poor can't.Everyone else has flip-flopped their opinions.
People are forgetting what LIBERTY means!!!!!!!!
"Grow old with me, the best is yet to be. The last of life for which the first was made." You don't have to relive your best year if you can make the next ones outstanding.
Regardless of party, I am a firm believer in sending legislation to the President even though you know he won't sign it. Is it a huge waste of time? You betcha! But Congress is a salaried position... Earn it! Force the President to veto it.
@jopat: The Democrat idea of compromise is "I will make you look like an obstructionist until YOU agree with me."
by the way the republicans sent a budget to the senate but its been quashed as usual. The dems are working on three years without a budget, still think republicans are being obstructionist?
Giguere: We know what you mean, with the majority the republicans have sent over 25 bills to the Senate for there review none have made it to committee. The dems want you to think its the repubs, its the old bait and switch! Don't fall for it....
So republicans and democrats are wrong... I have to support the lesser of 2 evils though :(
Everyone here has little facts. GOP and the quasi socialists are the problem!!! We need the constitution party...
Funny that 92% of republicans say its getting worse when they're a major part of this issue. Obviously this doesn't apply to every repub. so don't get offended and I'm not a dem. either. But the majority of congress is republican and if you've been watching the primaries, you know what I mean
the Christians don't believe in evolution!
Societies change...it's what we do, however it is human to resist change whether it is for the better or worse. Embrace change, learn from our past, and evolve...it's kind of what we are supposed to do.
Things need to get worse before they get better. We can only hope this'll lead to a new and better era. Otherwise this county is screwed.
The GOP is driving the country to hell
not all people, just the far out right.
Its sad that all of these things are happening with glorious applause!! The people are demanding that their rights should be taken away! They will sacrifice freedom in the name of security. This is how it ends. We will spread freedom and democracy to all if we have to kill every last one of them
Zod. No worries, I do not mean to bring you down. I mean to enlighten! :). Westmont, I love your John Adams quote! Here is of my favs! "No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare!". James Madison, Apr. 20, 1795
"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." John Adams (1814)
That should've been bliggs, sorry - I'm adding iPad's crappy non-keyboard and crummy auto"correct" to your list. Definitely worse.
Briggs, you've totally harshed my mellow. I was just starting to talk myself into thinking it wasn't, at least, getting worse. Nice job with the list though, you hit a few I'd forgotten.
Pink slime, potential war with Iran, jobs shipped overseas, bankers gambling our savings away, 25,000 drones being used to spy on us, public schools budgets cut, police and fireman budgets cut, pre-marital sex illegal, patriot act enacted, habeas corpus gone! Sounds better to me! How about you????
Requiring delivery sounds good on paper but I doubt we could figure out a way to make it work, and that's just here, it's a world market. We need to find something else for them to use to turn thin air into money, like food or water (kidding!).
jopat, speculators aren't new, it seems to be an irregular cycle based on where they think the easy money is. Like most people, when I refer to the price of oil I mean the spot price of WTI, and know Brent will be higher.
Many individuals are waking up and paying attention politically, which is good. But the Federal government and its policies are getting steadily more irresponsible, which is bad.
Are speculators something new? I think they have always been around they have just gotten greedier and the world ability to supply us, China and India has become a balancing act. We should require speculators to take delivery of the oil they buy and there would be less horrors in the world, hehe!
