When a politician is trying to steer the country into ruin through excessive taxation, spending and debt, it is their job to stand up and refuse to go along. I'm proud of every conservative, R, D, or I, who stood for us instead of going along with the politicians.

Yes, but the Supreme Court should still be for life. It helps to minimize political tampering in the judicial process during high profile, potentially volatile cases.

The hypocrisy on this issue is absolutely infecting both sides of the isle, and it is hypocritical of you to suggest that it is only conservatives.

It is against all politicians self-interest, and in the best interest of the people.

Lady ... Clean the wax out ... It is not just conservatives who oppose term limits. The more accurate description is ... Anyone in office! Don't attempt to paint the likes of Pelosi and Reid as benevolent politicians who go to serve as citizen representatives and then quietly leave after a term.

Ya, and Mr Reid is the poster boy for compromise, right? Get a grip. Progressives are in charge and incapable of leading.

With Pelosi and Reid, who needs more proof that term limits are required?

My form of term limit would be different. I think everyone should only be able to serve one consecutive term but they can go back after they wait a term out.

Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reason.

When inexperienced, idealistic young guns (not to mention incredibly arrogant) are elected to office, nothing gets done. Those same idiots refuse to compromise. Lack of compromise is what led Lamepublicans to get their @sses kicked in this last election

And a prerequisite is real world experience.

Okay, how about a compromise... No term limits but they can be a candidate - not an incumbent - and run in a primary every single time. *That's* democracy!

I wish often that we didn't have limits since we are a democracy. If we really want someone there who is serving us well, why limit their capacity to help the Nation or their personal city/state

America will be a country stripped of weapons, wearing brown uniforms and having only two classes (the rich and the poor) before term limits are ever uttered in Congress.

Doesn't matter. We Need statesmen! Men & women that leave their jobs and go to DC to SERVE their country and use REAL WORLD experience to help their constituency. Men & women that don't get rich off of a political career in the festering, putrid, cesspool of corruption and criminality that is DC.

"Since when?" Since politicians discovered they can manipulate policy and game the system. Career politicians retire as WEALTHY individuals, when supposedly they work FOR their constituency. They win reelection based on how much of *other people's* money they spend, hence out crushing debt.

This is still a major problem and is not solely the tactics of any one party. This particular redistributing was admitted to by a minor official and then retracted almost immediately. So, there you go.

Burned, you obviously haven't lived in Utah. Matheson (D), was the 3rd dist rep, enjoyed a sizable lead as SLC was far more liberal than rest of state. 4th rep added and when lines redrawn, and SLC chopped up into 4 sections, Matheson barely retained his seat. This was last month, not 200 years ago.

It's not personal. They are good people. Libs are well meaning but wrong thinking. That's what I get. I wish you did too
Please try harder - maybe you will figure it out.

I don't think you get it. It's not about me. It's about fairness.
They are too good to take what they force upon us. They get wealthy while serving us. If Obamacare is good enough for you it should be good enough for them.
I don't like them wasting our money while living high on our dime.

Term limits are a conservative concoction and a terrible idea to boot. Since when did experience and continuity become a bad thing? Moreover, the Supreme Court already declared federal term limits unconstitutional (US Term Limits)

What if the President could only be elected for one 6-year term? A president's policies rarely go into effect within a 4-year time frame, and a year of his time in office is spent solely focused on reelection.

Corruption in government has a way of fixing the outcome of the "public" elections. Career politicians have been known to seek their own interests first, even at the cost of being fair, ethical, or even moral.

Not the only reason, but it is a fairly common occurrence that creates these "career politicians".

Ray, I appreciate the effort at a jab. However Minimum wage puts a person below poverty level, "Obamacare" makes them buy health insurance, and Social Security is something they already paid for. I get it, you don't like Dems/Liberals/The President, fair enough, but please try a little harder.

The founders were so liberal they chose to throw away the tyranny of tradition when it didn't adequately meet the challenges of the times in which they lived. They even defended us from them by creating an amendment process.

How strange that something so favored by voters hasn't been passed into law by our elected representatives. But I'm sure they all have our best interests at heart in all other areas. Those in public service cannot afford to be self serving. (Eye roll)

: I am persuaded that a firm union is as necessary to perpetuate our liberties as it is to make us respectable; and experience will probably prove that the National Government will be as natural a guardian of our freedom as the State Legislatures.

Actually the argument makes total sense. Incumbents do have name recognition on their side. Is a huge advantage

For example, Ben Franklin was often heard to say churches served no purpose, and Jefferson was a Unitarian Universalist, which is a liberal ideology. That is why the response was warranted.

not all state-wide positions should have term limits. nationwide positions were actually created to have people "in-and-out".

Tilton, you were attacked personally because you, in a thread about term limits, made a blanket statement about liberals and them being able to quote the founders. A statement that was ludicrous. Half the founding fathers were liberals!

As to Taxes, they are evidently inseparable from Government. It is impossible without them to pay the debts of the nation, to protect it from foreign danger, or to secure individuals from lawless violence and rapine.
There you go, Tilton. From Hamilton
