Would you rather live in a purely socialist society or purely capitalist society?
Sweden is way better than China, which is about as close as the comparisons can get.
Democracy without sacrifice and cooperation is doomed to destruction. The seeds are there, they are watered with inequality, greed and poverty. Fed by irrational absolutism, lack of empathy, and religious extremism, democracy cannot survive.
Libertarianism is fertilizer. In other words, its shít. A balance of capitalism and socialism is necessary to a democracy.
What power has law where only money rules.
____Gaius Petronius (~66 AD)
The government swings one way or the other but always a natural balance. Radical philosophy's create anomalies that grow to offset a natural balance and the system collapses. Leaving it open to a dictatorship or communist society. Debate is essential, absolutism destroys the process.
There you are: the usual representative of the SOH Democratic party. Instead of being Democratic, why not be American? Seriously, simulaneously being respectively honest, why don't you try to work with people instead of butt heads with everyone who doesn't have identical thinking processes as you?
Why would they place socialist first?
So that the Democats don't have to reach far with their left thumb to tap the Socialist button automatically.
Socialism: Poverty, desperation, extermination
Capitalism: exploitation, concentration, privilege.
the only true form of capitalism is lazzia-faire capitalism which is free and fair trade with as little government interference as possible. Ounce you get out of that form you are getting into socialism and fascism which will ruin give you mixed results.
"The problem with Socialism is that you soon run out of others people's money." - Margaret Thatcher
Would you like me to quote Lenin or someone that wasn't a neo-con?
Social justice? What a crock of $hit! Life holds no guarantees for anyone. It figures that the "gimme" dems voted 60+% in favor of socialism. I will never concede to living in a socialist society. My work, my profit, my property. No one else is entitled to the fruits of my labor.
I'll be taking your share of social security and Medicare then. Since you're too proud to take the fruits of anyone else's labor as well I'm assuming.
US has a greater income inequality than Venezuela WTF HOW DOES THIS NOT ANGER AMERICANS?
Because poor people in America are richer than the upper middle class in Venezuela.
Because economics is not a zero-sum game. On the market, one person being rich does not make another poor. In capitalism, one becomes rich by serving his fellow man. In socialism, it is by using the force of government to loot those around him.
Capitalism=money=the root of all evil
Power is the root of all evil, not money, which is nothing more than a medium of exchange.
I thought this argument stopped in 1989? Why would anymore want to take up a system that has already been proven to fail?
Socialism is NOT communism socialism is actually proving a better system as far as social justice, income equality, and economic stability.
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
Just because the prevailing party to rule was communist, is entirely another question.
Check out Cuba!!! The only problem it has is the STUPID embargo. Educate yourself!
No it's the exact same thing as communism just less extreme. U still put all the power in the hands of a few officials who really make all the money. Socialism is a way to share the poor with citizens of all kinds, except the government officials. There is nothing to work for in socialism it's all
Planned out for u.
Wolfman, you're wrong. Communism advocates disestablishment of the state. Socialism bolsters it through nationalization.
With the current corporatism(pseudo fascism) system nationalization provides competition in markets where none or very minimal exists
I like having an entire grocery aisle dedicated to a variety of cereals.
These results are fascinating. And deeply troubling. Our founding fathers are turning over in their graves.
I'd like to see someone who voted for socialism explain what they think "capitalism" means. Or "socialism" for that matter.
Looks like the next democratic candidate should be Vladimir Putin
VT losers. Bernie Sanders ran and won as a Socialist for mayor of Burlington years ago. No he's "our" senator. Incredible. We need you George Washington.
Dont be hating on my boy bernie yo!
This is what makes me wonder why do we wish to be united when we share different views? Wouldn't be easier to have a country favor capitalism and one that favors socialism? I think the world would be a better place if we kept our values passed down to us.
By that logic we should all have sovereignty over a tiny plot of land because nobody will agree with everything.
We already do. The west coast and east coast are socialistic.....the rest of the states believe in working for a living.....that vast populace are primarily responsible for Obama, Pelosi, Frank, Feinstein, etc.
I know many people have probably already pointed this out, but pure capitalism and pure socialism have never existed and will never exist. So all of this argument is kind of pointless.
It's an argument of ideals and philosophy. How is that pointless? If we had neither we would be living in a pretty dreary state.
Pure capitalism does exist in Hong Kong and Singapore.....
Really?? 63% of the Democrats want to change our founding fathers ideas of how the very basic structure of this country was formed ?
The most UnAmerican group in this country.
It is time democrats change the JackAss to the sickle and hammer.
I don't remember seeing the words "capitalism" or "socialism" in any document written by the founding fathers...
Neither capitalism or socialism in its 'purity' have ever existed.
And why must we need to insult each other over our ideas? Isn't that one thing America values- ideas of the people?
Capitalism is the best system. Do not confuse it with fascism (corporatism). When there is minimal government; corporations can't buy favors.
Yeah, they save the money and just buy their struggling competitor and then raise prices! Yay logic!
Corporations buy politicians who give them favors in return( they're cheaper than you think)
Half you people don't even realize we aren't actually capitalists <_< oh help the poor, govt aid. Capitalist economy: yeah go fuck urself u had a fair chance like everyone else. And it's true, until your on the wrong end, isn't so fun anymore ^_^
President Hollande, of France, won the last election as the leader of their Socialist Party. They are losing wealthy entrepreneurs to other nations, no one will start or expand business there, USA unemployment would be a blessing, economy is tanking.
Yeah, talk all they want about universal healthcare (low quality) and universal education (also low quality), one need look no further than Europe to see the disaster socialism brings.
Okay, that's like blaming a 2nd recession on Obama. It hasn't happened. Francois Hollande won because the French economy struggled in the last period of conservative Sarkozy's presidency. So I'm not understand your "socialist failure" argument...
And it's still the 2nd largest/best in Europe...
Hugo Chavez, as a proponent of socialism, has created a state with increasing poverty, high inflation (over 30%), corruption, black markets & crime. And they have massive oil reserves...
Hugo Chavez, never practiced socialism.
Hugo Chavez, like all communists, used to the word socialism to instill a totalitarian regime based on fascism and communism.
Corruption increases exponentially with expansion in government.
Correct. And in pure socialism, there is no government.
So you're advocating for what now?
No government is called anarchy.
Ok, I should have said "no government as we know it." The collective is the government. As in everyone. Which is why pure socialism doesn't exist beyond small communities and tribespeople.
Actually you're highly misinformed poverty decreased exponentially in Venezuela under Chavez, one of the only reasons his country adored him even though his government was a disaster, the income equality was at least more respectable than the US
The US has black markets, crime, corruption, inflation, massive oil reserves and a rampant poverty issue so your argument is not valid to any logical thinking person....
The poverty that results from socialism makes socialism immoral.
And the poverty that comes from corporatism in capitalism makes capitalism immoral. Harmony works best.
Just one has a 100% failure rate
Neither have been ever tried...
This saddens me. That people would like to give up there freedom. It's a shame really.
What I'm glad I never gave up was my ability to spell.
Tell me what's more important our freedom given to us as Americans or a grammatical error?
Proof the American education system is failing to produce logical educated individuals, propaganda in schools is reducing the nation to a misinformed unintelligible and highly closed minded society... :(
I'd like to, but with the monetary policy today, we're never going to get the chance.
No wonder our country is crap, we keep electing democrats who want to control every single thing. I will never understand their view points.
How does this comment pertain to this?
Cause the majority of democrats chose socialism.
No one controls everything in socialism. That's communism or fascism. Good try though.
A pure socialists society has nearly the same meaning as a communists or fascist country.
Everyone, please stop the "you can move" or "please move" crap. We are adults trying to have an adult conversation. When you speak like that you come off as bitter 13 year olds who were told to turn off the TV and go to bed.... Just my opinion, I'm sure I'll be told to move back to nazi Germany...
Yeah, I'm tired of pasting my same argument there...
Weather in Germany sucks this time of year.
Democrats, please leave
Yes, because we only want one type of option in the country. That's not fascism or totalitarianism or anything. Please, keep talking, you don't sound like a complete moron yet...
Sure, we could leave, or we could do the American thing and fight for what we believe in and what is right.
More love socialism is not American.
Yeah Wolfe, how much does your fire brigade charge you? How much do you pay in road tolls? How much do you pay for education?
Either one, if corruption were controlled. The real question is in which system can you better control corruption.
Alright vermont! Represent my 802 comrades
I see there are still people who hate dictionaries.
State Socialism (ie Marxism) IS NOT PURE SOCIALISM.
Read up on co-operative economies.
It's pointless, I gave up except for my copy and paste argument.
I'm surprised that "livefree" from TX no less supports socialism
Please show me any one of my comments that supports socialism.
What? You can't?
That's because I'm not. Don't confuse a support of the English language with the support of an ideal.
Now re-read my post and slap yourself in the face. Thanks.
That's like calling me rapist because I'm defining what a rapist is. All you show is your ignorance and that SHOULD be embarrassing for you. Apparently not.
Whoa, cool your jets Cool Hand Luke. Someone forgot to take their Ritalin today. So sorry I misunderstood your comment. I'm so sorry... Would you please forgive me?!?! Pretty please.
For 18 hours I have been correcting people in their misunderstanding as to what socialism is. Pardon me if I tired of being called a socialist. That's also the 3rd or 4th time someone has made the exact same comment directed to me. It gets a little old.
Well your comment, when read somewhat quickly, comes across as a socialist supporter.
No, I'm a socialist. This guy just so happens to help in educating people on what socialism actually is as opposed to the horror story socialism most people believe socialism is. There is a wide gap between supporting and not letting an ideology be unfairly attacked.
Are you a sociology or economics expert? I didn't realize I was debating the world-renowned expert. I didn't attack livefree so not sure why you have a comment here.
Morelove, you keep c&p the same comment.
Explain the last part: "what is right".
Are you going to explain it?
Apparently those who voted for Socialism aren't aware they're free to move to a Socialist Country if they like! It's clearly not welcomed here!
They're welcome here. We both live in SC. I win.
We dont live in a purely capitalist society either. You would have if you lived in germany around 1939 though. Pure capitalism is fascism and its as far from the American way as communism
Dems Reps Capitalism
Very few of either side want the pure form of either. Just that dams round toward one side and reps round toward the other. NEITHER IS GOOD.
This user is currently being ignored
Hey Liberals....PLEASE MOVE!! I'll help you pack if you go to a Socialist country and STAY!!
Don't go away mad.......just go away.....please!!! You're ruining this one!
Helping us pack is socialism, btw.
7 now love?
Comment, why dont you move, your kinds the problem. We'd be much better off without conservatives. Much happier as well
Trams and common, you two probably shouldn't be in an adults conversation. Run along and go play now.
Same old story. The "haves" want capitalism so they can work and earn more, you know get paid for what you do. The lazy asses want socialism so they can sit around taking from others and complaining that they need more.
Taking what, exactly? I never understand comments like this
That would be taking money from others via 2 years unemployment, unneeded welfare, etc. need I go one with "taking"?
Welfare was designed as a stepping stone to get ppl through a difficult time, not as a full time income for 99 months. So many fake a job search bc it's easier to just collect and relax.
@ Kscott, I know so many people like that. I'm sick of them living off of my hard earned taxes when they can work for a living! Makes me want to punch someone in the face!
90% of people go on welfare when they can't meet the needs for living, not because they don't feel like working that day.
Awe... That's so sweet that u believe that, Andrew…. May I ask, how old are you?
For instance, some ppl will take my handout but still have $ to have Internet access, nice cars, smart phones, etc.
I don't trust complete capitalism or complete socialism. Both are too extreme to work.
Straight up capitalism or socialism will never work.
The problem with this question is that people who've educated themselves the least are often the ones who have the most to say.
I defy that logic.
I chose socialism because I would love to then cause the government to crumble into an anarchy. Also, to everyone saying we live in a socialist society, we actually live in a democratic republic.
No. We live in a Representative Republic. That is, at least they're supposed to represent us.
@ jasonreed, they're the same thing
The type of government system and type of economic system are two different things you idiot! We live in a Representative Republic. Our economic system is a blend between Capitalism and Socialism because neither work without the other. Fact.
We live in a democratic republic, all republics are representative. That is what republic means. That does not bar us from having any possible economic system.
Ha! Democratic? No. Representative, maybe over half the time.
At least with straight up capitalism I have a shot.
Always trying to make it about guns, sheesh. :p
We are already living in socialism. And it sucks. Capitalism is the only economic system that actually works.
We are not living in a socialist society in any sense of the word. The means of production are still privately owned and controlled. Resources are still acquired through individual labor. We have market regulations in place out of necessity, but those do not change the nature of our economy.
We are not currently living in socialism. Our current situation is more akin to fascism than anything as government maintains heavy control of industry without actually claiming ownership.
Anyone saying that either pure set-up would work doesn't understand what they're talking about.
The question though is that, forced to make a decision between the two, which would you rather? I don't think any of the respondents actually want a pure society of either form
But you have to choose one or the other.
Everyone chill... I am democratic and chose capitalist. I agree that socialism dies not work, but neither does pure capitalism. I don't believe a country should shun its poorer citizens. Guess what? Neither works! Many European countries are "more socialist" than the US and are doing good.
And they're actually spending way more than they are taking in. I mean we do that too, but Europe is much worse.
France. Exhibit A.
Yes, which socialist European countries are doing well exactly?
Europe is not socialist. The workers do not control the means of production. They are welfare states, and it is going to end very poorly for them with an aging population and an increasinly wealthy third world. You simply can't spend on entitlements forever.
