I have. If there's a social issue I care about on the ballot, I will vote in favor of an associated tax raise, within reason.

Federal tax revenues are at all time historical levels (despite the slow economy). Historic in actual dollars and % of GDP and we are still running $1 Trillion dollar deficits.

How can any intelligent and rational person not see that this is a spending problem.

Exactly. The income tax should have been apportioned, but was not. The SCOTUS decided that it was in fact an excise tax... Though they never specified on what. So you don't actually pay part of your income to the govt. your income is used to measure the tax you owe for the privilege of breathing.

ScrewU Gone

It sure doesn't. Direct taxes still must be apportioned. When challenged in court, the SCOTUS said it was in fact a tax in the nature of an excise. But what is being taxed? Nobody knows.

There's another challenge in front of them this spring. We'll see what happens.

ModerateGOP26 Maine

There's a line at the end of your taxes that says "Additional Donations." If you feel you don't pay enough in taxes (looking at you, Warren Buffett), then shut the f*ck up and give more of your money to Uncle Sam ... And stay out of others' business.

Player Ra-Ra boy. Player.

How much of our economic power, including oil, goes thru that canal.

Here's the problem with a bunch of boys who know nothing about the importance of canals. Too busy counting on one hand.

What would happen if we switched our support? Who would be the fool then?

Israel would be happy to roll right up... The opposition would love to have the money were dolling out to the haters... Plus Egypt is refusing to sign the treaty. Who's the door mat in this situation?

Idv4fun, are you aware the US has been giving Israel and Egypt billions (with a B) every year since before you were born?

Why don't you look up how many BILLIONS we give them both EVERY year. Let us know what you find.

Out of curiosity, how much have we given to Israel over the past decade?

rebelfury

How long has the treaty been effect that warrants the money... Pull that stick out of your eye...

We usually have a carrier group in the Red Sea a guess how many nations use it, by the way who paid for it?

RJ1969 SoCal
03/04/13 6:28 pm

There were years we gave $60 Billion on aid. For the most part, they get between $10 and $20 billion a year. Egypt has been our #2 recipient for about 30 years now, averaging about $4-6 billion a year.

If we stop giving them free money will instability suddenly appear and keep us from using the Suez Canal and stop us from buying oil? We shouldn't have to spend billions every year to take part in the world economy freely.

rebelfury
03/04/13 6:45 pm

There is already instability there and most of that oil goes to Europe. Too many countries other than us rely on the canal... We just flip the bill

And of course it's not apple "stock." It was intended to be apple-pear *butter* but it never cooked down quite that far; I was afraid it would burn. (Note to self: Get a big double boiler.) it was great with plain yogurt.

I could be persuaded to do it again.

I wouldn't vote for more taxes nor bitch and complain when the price of subsidized goods and services increased as a result. I can manage what I consume. I can't manage what the government spends money on that I don't use.

Of course not. Minimal government and minimal taxation equal maximum freedom. That's the Founders' intent. Why can't Mr. "I'm a great Constitutional scholar, so let's tax the successful at an exorbitant rate" get that through his Kenyan-American head? Woo - I feel much better now. :-)

How much did the founders intend on spending for aircraft carrier attack groups?
