@xtina : there are more than 300k plant species and only 10k bird (about 1k US) but I went with birds because I estimate I can name about 200 from US and 100 more from central Europe (though I don't keep a sighting checklist) but doubt I can name 300 common plants.

I was thinking of plants in their natural environments/forms (e.g. recognizing carrots by the leafy tops) and still chose plants. When I realized that ANY state of growth was included, my answer was definitely plants! Couldn't *everyone* name more fruits and veggies than birds?!??

lindyj23 Chicken, turkey, duck, goose, pheasant, grouse, chukar, quail, and emu (jerky). I can't think of any more tasty ones right now - I'm not as hungry as I was earlier.

VAtech- I agree. When I posted that, I hadn't seen all the other "firsts" of his.
Dear starry, although I found you amusing at first, this app is about getting peoples opinions. I should not have egged you on.

Earlybird, you are probably one of the very few fans of Starry! No one likes the obnoxious and in this case extremely over the top "firsters"

I'm a hobby birder though I cannot identify every LBJ (little brown job, nondescript warbler or wren) . Plants are those green leafy things along the road, right? ;)

@zod Just wondering what birds you eat. More than 4?! I only eat chicken and turkey typically. Have had duck but not very often.

my dad is a bird watcher so naturally I have an interest in bird watching. I can identify every bird in my area. I find spotting birds (new or old) more exciting than plants.

There are clearly more species of plants than birds, but the question is can I identify them. It's lunchtime. I can name more tasty birds than vegetables I like, but it's easier to do it the other way around. Corn, tomato, potato, Lima bean, done. Other than corn, I probably can't identify these.

I still remember the time I was out rowing and this huge, majestic bald eagle swooped down out of the forest over the water. The experience was more worth a MILLION words.

I'll guess birds, but it could be about even. I know a lot about true trees and what plants are edible in the northwest forests, but deciduous trees all look the same to me - especially for the half of the year they look dead. Other than lawn, what other plants are there?

There must be more ornithologists than I realized. I would think the average person could list far more fruits veggies trees grasses & flowers than fowl.

By numbers, plants. But by % of those in my environs , birds. Went with birds because I like birds! I even live with one, a sun conure.
