FBI Director and presidential candidate CyclePath (R-VA) proposes a Constitutional Amendment
Amendment fails @CyclePath
There are some issues that shouldn’t be stated, especially pertaining to human rights. This includes discrimination, segregation, slavery, and yes, gay marriage.
Nay. This (as unlikely as it may sound) may allow states to reopen laws banning interracial marriages. I have faith that lawmakers won't go to heinous and racist lengths and ban interracial marriages, but the option shouldn't be there for lawmakers in the first place.
Nay. Would allow red states to violate the 14th amendment, which would require alot of supreme court cases.
Yea! (Although it would be better if government would get out of marriage entirely).
What would that involve? No official marriage registration?
Exactly. The licensing of marriages was invented by Democrats in the early 20th century to help prevent mixed marriages in the South. It’s about time we put that racist tradition to rest. The government has no legitimate interest in licensing marriage.
False tlaney! Massachusetts has required marriage licenses since 1639, and records are widely available starting in the mid-19th century. Furthermore, marriage licenses first appeared in the Middle Ages to legalize marriages that otherwise wouldn’t be allowed (usually had to do with notice). Banns of marriage, announcing the intent to marry for three Sundays before the wedding, were required starting in 1215 in England. Do some research instead of spreading lies.
I was aware of banns, which aren’t relevant here, but I was not aware of the Massachusetts laws. Thanks for that info. The info I shared is still correct; it just wasn’t the first appearance of licensing. No need to be hostile; I just shared the portion of the truth that I knew. Thanks for supplementing it with your portion.
Honestly tom, I wouldn't care if your government isn't involved at all in marriage plan went into effect. I do have a problem with homosexuals not being granted the same rights as heterosexuals.
Do you understand my argument that the WORD “marriage” should be reserved for church weddings, but that civil unions (under that or another name, other than marriage) with EQUIVALENT BENEFITS should be available to atheists and LGBs?
I think some preachers would be fine officiating lgbt weddings.
Some are, indeed. And some preachers don’t believe the Bible is God’s Word. I don’t consider those a part of the true Christian Church...
I'd actually propose an amendment. States should be required to hold a referendum on same-sex marriage within one year of the law passing.
There shouldn’t be any laws or regulations against religious practices in the first place.
Big may from your resident lesbian.
Why? I think it should be a states rights issue.
But I'd prefer marriage be completely privatised.
Just saying I expect more from you lol
If there were a referendum on the matter in Indiana I would vote for same-sex marriage.
I doubt it would pass.
And I'd be like, alright thats fine the people have decided.
Great then cool guess I'll just not get married
I didn't think feminists got married anyways.
Lol. I would like to someday.
You can Bower, and I hope you marry a lovely woman.
Laws and regulations regarding marriage shall be determined by the states.
