The fire was probably inevitable. He needs to do lots of hard labor community service.

He should work the front lines on fire crew every summer for the next 3 years. 60 hours a week of smoke eating will give him some perspective.

He is too young. Work behind the lines. No pay.

They need to pay costs to the limit of any homeowners policy and umbrella liability policy they may have.

They can “sentence” the son to a lifetime set of hours of community service. I’m not sure about the amount of hours though. Maybe 10 hours a week tending the area where he started the fire.

Yes, he’s a minor.
Crappy parents raise crappy kids. Like truancy, they should be penalized. Bunch of Bullshit.
Take responsibility for your kids people, AND their behavior. It’s a direct reflection of you!

That's really not true. I had great parents and I was a really crappy kid.

There’s a big difference between bad behavior and bad character. MO
Bad character, MO, stems from bad parenting.
Maybe it’s nature not nurture.

Yes.....ajudicated by the Court of jurisdiction....

Note: Responsibility is the issue here.....was there "intent" to destroy or harm.....no, however, corrective measures need apply opposed to punitive ones.....imho....

If the boys parents can show they tried getting behavioral help for their 15 year old in the past, I’d say no. Otherwise, yes.

Only if his family knew what he was doing and did nothing to stop him. Otherwise, I say try the kid is an adult and hold him responsible.

What a shame. All of their lives have been ruined by this.

Any? Yes. All? No.

Fires like that do not happen in well tended forests except at the end of the forest's cycle - the fire would have happened anyway, from lightning or whatever.

I'd figure the cost of initial emergency services - in the few hundred or thousand dollar range - unless otherwise provided by statue.
