According to some conservatives we should trust Trump because he is a good business man. 400 millionaires and billionaires just sent a letter to Congress asking them to NOT give them a tax break for the good of the country. Who should we listen to?

It's always funny to see millionaires who do everything they can to avoid hiring their fellow countrymen so they can import cheap foreign labor pretend to be patriots who want what's best for the country in order to attack our duly-elected President. They can go fuck themselves!

Those 400 are more than welcome to pay my share of taxes too if they don’t want their money.

Trump isn't writing the tax bill. It is a group of establishment RINOs that has lent their ear to big business.

That’s true, but last time I checked, he’s backing it too.

400? That's it? There are millions of millionaires in America. 400 is nothing.

Shouldn’t we look at motivation? What is their motivation? Improving the country. What is the GOP motivation? Improving the wealth of the top. Hmmm....

Their motivation is purely political. You are taking the opinion of 400 guys and treating it as an absolute truth. That's 0.0001% of the population.

Your claim has no merit.

I know it’s a political move, but that’s the case for both parties. My question is based on other motives. It’s clear why the rich want to pay as little as possible, but why would you want to pay? Other, of course, that you know in the long run it’s better for the country.

1. Not everything is about taxes. There 100 other issues

2. Lower tax rate doesn't necessarily mean you will pay less taxes. Specially if you don't close loopholes.

3. Maybe they have some kind of personal interest that would benefit them (and not the country) if Democrats are in power.

Neither. The GOP establishment has shown very clearly that it's for massive government just like the Dems. We don't need more money going to government. We need less government.

Obviously these businessmen are not also economists. High taxes on the business owners/job providers will only prolong poor economic conditions.

Every economist I have talked to about this and heard is against this plan. Even top advisors to Reagan and Bush are against it.

It does matter. In order to function as a country with a military, roads, and schools we need taxes. These people are putting country before greed. The GOP is not putting country first.

We didn’t do it well. Try taking Route 66 compared to taking 55. 55 is significantly more efficient. Our country improves when we upgrade roads and schools. It costs money to do that. There are areas in this country that need help, it’s foolish to ignore that need and to think impoverished people can fund their roads and schools on their own. It’s also foolish to neglect those areas.

Come On, these people don’t want to pay more; and if they do, they are more than welcome to donate their money to whatever cause they feel necessary.

They want the top 20% to pay their fair share for the good of the country. The point is, unlike the GOP, these people are putting country first rather than greed.

the GOP is only pushing so hard because their giant money base from the Koch brothers have told them that THEY gave them the house the Senate and the white house and if they can't do what they want, they'll find someone else who can.

George is asking to pay more!!! What’s his motivation for wanting to pay more in taxes?!? We know the motivation to pay less, but what is the motivation to pay more in taxes to benefit others?

Then they can pay more in taxes. The letter was politically motivated.
If you don’t want a tax break, pay more. Pay much more. You can do that.

They should put a field on the new post card size tax return, where these millionaires can fill in any additional amount they want to donate to the federal government. I really doubt anyone will do it. What they really want is to show how generous they are. It's all fake, they all take all the deductions and exemptions they can. Nobody really wants to pay more.

Here is a short video on the wealthy in the USA, it’s a very interesting piece and we should all consider what tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans would do to the overall debt.

For this question I would like to ignore reality and believe Trump was a good business man.
Focus on who you would trust, a party trying to benefit financially or a group of individuals looking to lose out financially for the sake of others.
