Should all money spent on athletic scholarships be reallocated to academic scholarships?
Many of those scholarships are gifts from donors who specified how their gift was to be used. Not all, but many. So if you want to retarget or change priorities, just gift/spend your money with a different priority.
No. Channel more athletic profits to academics.
I feel like athletic scholarships are out of control. There's a lot of kids in high school and even college that get good grades in other classes solely because they're on the sports team. They neglect their studies and end up permanently hurting themselves because they pushed too hard. Then once they graduate, they end up with absolutely nothing: no knowledge gained and permanent injuries, and they can't contribute to society. And for what? A 0.001% chance of "going pro"?
If college athletes start earning a cut of NCAA revenue, sure. Otherwise, obviously not. One or the other, I’m fine with either.
