Rene Boucher, the Communist who almost killed Rand Paul, has plead not guilty. If the Communist didn’t attempt to murder a U.S. Republican Senator, then who did?

How could Rand Paul have become president if he can’t even handle a fistfight. Sad!

First of all, it wasn’t a fist fight. Rand was wearing ear protection while mowing his grass and was attacked by this cowardly Communist from behind. Rand didn’t see or hear the attack coming.

Second what American President ever got into a fist fight with anyone?

If you can’t beat a commie, you can’t be president. That’s just how it works, I don’t make the rules.

"Second what American President ever got into a fist fight with anyone?"

Teddy Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln. Probably Andrew Jackson too, although his preferred method seems to have been duels. And other than for sport (Roosevelt) I think all the fights were prior to their taking office, if that matters.

"It doesn’t matter."

That's after you said "zero."

Couldn't you *ever* say something like, "Oh, that's interesting, I had no idea." Or, "I was wrong."

Nobody really gives a crap if someone is wrong on minor points about things (we all are at times - major points too - cripes, this is how people *learn* about stuff).

But when someone just brushes it off as "It doesn't matter," frankly, they look kinda silly. Also, as if they don't care about learning anything.

Obviously you’ve never had any of your ribs cracked. Hard to win a “fight” when you don’t hear or see it coming and can’t breath after a sneak attack.

Please show me where, in the U.S Constitution, that states getting attacked from behind is a disqualification for being President.

You already pointed out that he was blindsided. There wasn't any need for me to do it too. Why are you taking me to task for that?

You're right, though, it's idiotic to say that someone should be able to handle any specific kind of physical fight in order to qualify for the Presidency. I don't think xxxceo was claiming that it's a Constitutional thing, although there's nothing wrong with pointing out that it's not one of the very few requirements. As far as I'm concerned, a quadriplegic is fully entitled to be President if they are a citizen and old enough, and have the support of enough voters.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 6:20 pm

Excuse me? How did I misrepresent the story? I've said WE (the general public) DON'T KNOW (YET) WHY Paul was attacked.

I've clearly stated that I don't assume that what the attacker's lawyer says is the real story. Let me quote myself from another thread here: "We don't know if it was politically motivated or not. Cowboy is right that the fact that his lawyer says it wasn't politically motivated doesn't prove that it wasn't."

Let me be even clearer: The attack MAY have been politically motivated. The attack MAY NOT have been politically motivated. WE (the general public) DO NOT KNOW ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

Some neighbors have said that it wasn't; that the two men have a long-standing *non-political* dispute (some say it's about landscaping; some say it isn't).

Some neighbors say that story isn't correct.

WE (the general public) DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF THAT IS CORRECT.

.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 6:24 pm

You apparently *think* that you know that the attack *was* politically motivated. I don't know how the hell you are so sure, without any actual *evidence* other than just your *assumption* that because this man is reportedly a registered Democrat and that he has reported posted anti-Trump and anti-GOP (although reportedly not any specific anti-Rand) stuff on his Facebook page, that he therefore *must* be a "Communist" and *must* have attacked his neighbor for political reasons.

But you know what? You may be right about that, and you may be wrong about that. You are making assumptions that may or may not be correct. It's really not smart to assume that they're correct.

www.who2.com/list/presidents-who-slugged-someone/

One night while entering the bar in a small hotel, Roosevelt was accosted by a drunken gunman. As Roosevelt told the story in his autobiography: "As soon as he saw me he hailed me as 'Four eyes,' in reference to my spectacles, and said 'Four eyes is going to treat.'" Roosevelt sat down and tried to laugh it off, but when the drunk waved his guns and persisted, Roosevelt took action: "As I rose, I struck quick and hard with my right just to one side of the point of his jaw, hitting with my left as I straightened out and then again with my right… when he went down he struck the corner of the bar with his head."

Knocked cold, the bully was dragged out of the bar and later skipped town on a freight train. Roosevelt returned to his dinner and then went to bed.

As president, ABE LINCOLN was a thoughtful and even melancholy man. But in his prairie days Lincoln was a top-notch “wrassler” who would take on all comers. [Not fistfights, exactly, here.]

Carl Sandburg describes several such battles in his biography of Lincoln, including one case where his opponent, a local champion named Armstrong, cheated by stomping on Abe’s instep with his boot heel. “This exasperated Lincoln so that he lost his temper, lifted Armstrong up by the throat and off the ground, shook him like a rag, and then slammed him to a hard fall, flat on his back.”

Sandburg describes another incident during Lincoln’s first run for Congress, when he was mounting a box to speak just as a fist fight broke out in the crowd. Lincoln “stepped off the box, shouldered his way to the fight, picked a man by the scruff of the neck and the seat of the breeches, and threw him ten feet for a fall.” Lincoln then returned to his box and made his speech.

Who didn’t this guy fight? The punchiest of the presidents, ANDREW JACKSON was such a roughneck that a 1906 biography by Cyrus Brady needed two chapters on the topic: “Pugnacity and Patriotism” and “Duels and Quarrels.”

Brady described a typical Jackson encounter in Jonesboro, Tennessee: a fire had broken out downtown and Jackson was organizing an old-fashioned bucket brigade when a “drunken coppersmith named Boyd” began to shout orders of his own. Jackson grabbed a bucket by the handle, swung it and cold-cocked Boyd, knocking him flat. Jackson then returned to the fire, “giving his orders as coolly as before.”

GA - Why do I do it? Initially, because I don't think poll questions based on inaccurate statements should go unchallenged. (I don't challenge *all* such polls on SOH of course; who has that kind of time? I just pick a few.)

After that, any further attempts to demonstrate where logic isn't being employed, or where information isn't factual, and to try to bring in better information, are sort of a "Hope Springs Eternal" kind of thing. Apparently I forget that my previous attempts haven't succeeded.

But if nothing else, maybe they'll help some *other* users see through some of the unwarranted claims being made. At least that's the answer I've gotten in the past when I've asked "Why do I even bother?," in regard to other seemingly thankless endeavors of a similar nature.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 4:40 pm

We really don't know why Paul was attacked. We don't know if it was politically motivated or not. Cowboy is right that the fact that his lawyer says it wasn't politically motivated doesn't prove that it wasn't.

In various news reports, there has been talk from some neighbors that has been a long-standing dispute *not* about politics between the two men, probably about landscaping of property; other neighbors have indicated that is not correct, or at least that it couldn't have been that Paul didn't take good care of his property's landscaping. We don't have a good way to judge the veracity of any of that.

The attacker hasn't spoken out about it (and would we believe him now?), nor has Paul (and he probably won't now because of the court case), and don't forget that he was *blindsided* in the attack and had headphones on. If the attacker didn't say anything and/or Paul didn't hear anything, he may not have a clue why it happened.

.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 4:47 pm

"I just don’t understand how someone almost kills a U.S. Senator and gets to walk out of jail."

(1) He *didn't* "almost kill" him. Initially, it seemed the damage was minor. *So* minor that no ambulance was called. The damage was more extensive than initially thought, but it was still *far* from "almost killing him." *FAR* from it.

(2) He gets to walk out of jail because he was charged with a *misdemeanor,* based on the initial assessment, and he posted bail based on that charge. Just like anyone else.

People charged with attempted murder (which he was *not*) usually can get out of jail on bail.

I don't know why the charge was not increased to a felony, but perhaps it will be.

.

cowboy Doors of Perception
11/09/17 4:53 pm

Then the manic gets to plead not guilty. I mean really? A Democrat almost kills a Republican U.S. Senator, walks out of jail and then he has the balls to say he didn’t do it and the judge lets him go? I feel like I’m living in the twighlight zone. Not much makes any logical sense anymore.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 4:55 pm

Now he has to go to trial. And maybe before that happens, he'll be charged with one or more felonies.

susanr Colorado
11/09/17 4:59 pm

And he did *not* almost kill him. He broke two ribs and displaced 3 more (those still count as fractures, but it's a different kind), and I think a lung was punctured, and he had some abrasions.

When you say that Paul was almost killed, people know that you are overdramatizing the situation, and they will tend to not believe much of anything else you say. If that's what you want, fine, but I doubt you really want that.

The closer you come to the truth (as best we know it, which admittedly isn't always easy to determine from news reports), the more people will respect what you have to say.

When you accuse me of lying after I have *carefully* explained that you are just wrong - which can be confirmed by anyone reading any of hundreds of news reports - you just make yourself look silly again.

He was *not* "almost killed."

If I'm crossing a street as a pedestrian, and a car takes a left turn into my path, bumping into me and breaking my lower jaw, would you say that I was "almost killed"? I *would* have been killed if the car had hit my skull instead of my lower jaw, and crushed my brain. But it didn't.

If the car came within three feet of me but didn't touch me, would you say I was "almost killed"? I *would* have been killed if the car hit me square on and crushed me. But it didn't.

In neither of the lesser scenarios would anyone (except maybe you) say that I was "almost killed." *Certainly* not for *legal* purposes, which is what you're describing. You couldn't sue the driver of a car who DIDN'T HIT YOU AT ALL, even if you felt it "almost killed" you.

So who attacked Rand Paul since Rene (girls name. No wonder the Communist coward attacked Rand from behind. Fucking pussy) told the court he didn’t. Must’ve been aliens, right?

he said he wasn't guilty of assault... not that he didn't tackle rand

So who broke Rands ribs and bruised his lungs? The cowardly Communist with a girl’s’ name, or aliens? Aliens, right?

Demeaning someone for having what you think is a "girl's name" is asinine.

Please go to this link and look at this picture. One of these people was named René. I hope that sobers you about denigrating someone for what you think is a girl's name ever again.

If that doesn't do it, maybe this will: The person who holds the record as the top Allied Forces fighter ace of the 20th and 21st centuries combined was also named René.

I didn’t name the cowardly Communist, who almost killed Rand Paul, Rene, Susan. Now you’re blaming me that? Getting a little petty now, aren’t you?

mudkip, we don't really know why the attacker assaulted Paul. I haven't seen any verified information that Paul came onto his property - have you? Even if he did, that wouldn't seem to warrant a blindsided assault.

Don’t say “we” like you speak for everyone, Susan. That’s quite presumptuous.

"We" the general public *do not know* why Paul was attacked.

Still wrong. All YOU know is what this scumbag Communist’s lawyer said.

ya I have no idea what their defence is gonna be. but I was just explaining how claiming not guilty doesn't mean he's saying he didn't hit him

Like I said, must’ve been aliens.

He’d probably be dead if rand wasn’t mowing his lawn

Which is a part of the story many seem to ignore. Rand Paul a sitting senator mows his own lawn. We need a poll of how many members of congress do that

Plus Rand wearing noise canceling ear protection. Didn’t see or hear this cowardly Communist coming.

I'll bet he isn't the only one who does *some* physical work when he's in his home district.

Remember when George Bush did some ranch chores while he was President?
