2/3 of Americans have some classification of "mental disorder". You'll have to be more specific.

No need for me to be specific. I’m talking about any and all mental disorders

I think the number is higher if you look at the most recent listing of mental disorders. Most people can be categorized with at least one disorder.

Unless their psychiatrist approves them.

We had a fatal shooting in Roseburg last year. The murderer was mentally ill. The mother knew it. The mother knew he had potential to kill. It she posted that he should have the right to loaded automatic weapons. Will he use that right. Now we have a lot of dead people.

Some learned liberals believe that conservatives have mental illness

Both parties have mental illness

I guess it would depend on the mental condition, as other users have stated

I didn’t say my view in the poll, but just proposed the statement. But hey, at least we’re not arguing lol. For now

I am of the mind that everyone could be diagnosed with a mental condition if someone studies them long enough.

Sorry you have OCD no gun for you.

I’ve got anxiety and ptsd. Even if I wanted a gun, I’m pretty sure I can’t have one because of the ptsd.

What is “normal?” My impression is normal is constantly changing.
Mental health is not an exact science. As much as I deplore what happened in Texas, we must be careful not over react. It’s a fine line.

Domestic abusers and people with anger issues that get you Court marshaled and dishonorably discharged definitely shouldn’t be able to legally own guns.

Nema ... men who think they’re women are mentally unstable and should not be allowed to own guns. They have a extremely high mortality rate — especially once they realize the irreversibility of the horrible mutilation they done to their bodies.

If then issue is severe enough for pharmaceutical intervention then I would say no. As a person with autism, I would say no, if they were prescribed drugs. This would render me unable to own a gun myself but there have to be some limits

I have to disagree but strictly because it's my personal opinion relative of my own life and lifestyle.
I've long argued that real gun control needs to take into account the environment that we're looking to control and implement meaningful measures to do so. This concept of having "gun free" zones without little to no enforcement of such is a joke which I believe is really played out by the gun lobby.

I sometimes take medication to help me focus but it's not very often. It just helps me focus a bit, I've learned to have self control.

No. That would include people with OCD, high-functioning autism, ADD, and many other people who are perfectly capable of owning a gun, but are different mentally than some others.

Depression is a mental issue, anxiety, eating disorders, etc. Too broad.
Plus it would violate hippa for drs to share diagnosis.
Diagnosis is not a process that should limit 2A. No chance to appeal or present evidence against the diagnosis. Too much power to drs without due process.

Or maybe the autism spectrum, they aren't dangerous.
Paranoid schizophrenia is the most dangerous mental disorder for gun owners.

xxxceo Nationalist
11/06/17 10:38 pm

Right, I didn’t even think about autism.
Agree about schitzos though. Definitely too crazy.

crazyjane New Jersey
11/06/17 10:41 pm

I wouldn’t say schizophrenia is the most dangerous, as a person using certain chemical substances could be equally or more dangerous

xxxceo Nationalist
11/06/17 10:52 pm

Is using chemical substances a mental disorder for the sake of this poll? If so then I agree, crack heads need not apply.

crazyjane New Jersey
11/06/17 10:54 pm

Substance use disorder is a mental disorder. And even certain medications can cause psychosis

Praetorianus In the uncanny valley
11/06/17 10:55 pm

I'd say no, drugs enhance personality traits and lower inhibition, but whether you have enough self control depends on your personality.
Just take alcohol, a drug: there's both well behaved and nasty drunks.

crazyjane New Jersey
11/06/17 10:58 pm

Side effects can take over self control though with overpowering drugs. I see your point with alcohol though

To be honest, I don't even think a person with OCD would want to shoot a gun.

crazyjane New Jersey
11/06/17 11:24 pm

Why? Just curious

ShakaBrah California
11/07/17 1:03 am

I guess he/she wouldn't want to shoot it. It's loud, and possibly scary for them, especially the trigger and hiw the gun "pulls away," if you understand that.

crazyjane New Jersey
11/07/17 1:14 am

I don’t see how that has to do with ocd though

Tariq88 Utah
11/06/17 10:31 pm

Mostly Agree, but I would also say that it depends on the type and severity of the mental disorder.
