No, I think he is a false teacher taking advantage of human suffering.

God has a special ability to heal people, which He shares with whomever He chooses. I’m not convinced He’s chosen Hinn.

God made those gifts cease.
And indeed they ceased after the apostolic age

Calvinist , i used to be a member of a church that believed that ... then I realized, if the Gifts ceased, then why do we bother praying ??? If God no longer heals, then why bother praying for the sick ? Just a thought ....

He does however have a special ability to con people out of their money.

It would and should be the everyday norm. Miracles are what all of us are capable of whether you reject Or accept God. Peace on earth is the goal. Sounds like a good thing that we could agree on. For a no doubt about it miracle, get Benny to instigate peace.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I'll believe it when it is proved concretely, until then no.

What’s wrong with John Piper? He’s gone off the rails into looney land lately. He gave a pretty pathetic response to using guns for self-defense.

I don’t know who is the biggest fraud in the modern day “Christian Church.” Benny Hinn or Joel Osteen? We need preachers that preach the gospel not wolves feasting off of people’s shallow faith.

Hard question indeed

political Georgia
11/04/17 4:22 pm

I would probably say Benny because of my strong disdain for the Charismatic Movement. Joel just smiles all the time and give people “good vibes” and junk.

Calvinist Amsterdam NL
11/04/17 4:23 pm

And I also think that Benny Hinn does more harm with his combination of fake healings and prosperity preaching

political Georgia
11/04/17 4:27 pm

He does. Joel just doesn’t want to make anyone mad and decides to offend the Gospel instead.

Just about anyone with in the modern day Pentecostal Church, I’m going to have serious theological differences with.

I agree with all you’ve all said about all of them. And the thing I resent the MOST is that they give true ministers a bad name. See below, where Carcano lumps all Protestant ministers into this category!

The vast majority of Protestant ministers are hard working men who are trying every day to lead their people to follow God’s word and don’t deserve this!

The bulk of preaching today is topical preaching instead of letting the Gospel be the center of your message.

4JC Christian Pastors Wife
11/04/17 5:59 pm

Not among the ministers I’m familiar with, including hubby. They might do a topical sermon for Mother’s or Father’s Day, Christmas or Easter. But the vast majority of their sermons are exegetical, preaching through entire books of the Bible, etc.

That’s the way it should be, and that’s the way my preachers conduct sermons. Nevertheless, this is a rare format in most Churches.

4JC: I agree that this guy’s side show is degrading to legit pastors but I’m wondering what your faith’s belief is about miracles.

I’m also wondering if the if the risk to credibility inhibits a legit preacher’s ability to serve openly.

Of course I’m only asking because I respect opinion.

As to miracles, the Southern Baptist Convention doesn’t take a stance on that. Here is a link to The Baptist Faith and Message, which is our stance on doctrinal issues that we consider important:

I don’t understand what you mean by the 2nd question. Can you please explain?

4JC, it seems to me that when ministering to people in need of a miracle a good Minister may be inhibited from providing hope & comfort for concern of being linked to charlatans. Your hubby’s credibility is most important and on the line every day.

11/05/17 5:46 am

4JC,

Calvinist is saying that the miracles that occurred in acts, such as speaking in tongues and healings, do not exist today. He is rejecting the Charismatic Movement.

Casper Deep inthe Heart ofTexas
11/05/17 8:54 am

4J C, thank you for the read. It’s well written & consistent with how I know the SCB.
They don’t emphasize Acts or the Holy Spirit. They acknowledge the Holy Spirit “enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service”. That seems miraculous in itself but far short of how some would read Acts.

Calvinist Amsterdam NL
11/05/17 9:03 am

Indeed. God will still heal us as answer of our prayers, but no Benny Hinn style miracles.

political Georgia
11/05/17 10:35 am

I think that it’s safe to say that the SBC Church is not Charismatic. Besides, 30% are good ole Calvinists! ☺️

Calvinist Amsterdam NL
11/05/17 10:45 am

Means 70% are arminian heretics...

political Georgia
11/05/17 10:49 am

There is definitely some arminian elements within the SBC, but I believe a better description would be that they are a hybrid between Arminianism and Calvinism.

4JC Christian Pastors Wife
11/05/17 1:54 pm

Thanks, Casper. Hubby believes that God provides miracles in several different ways today. He can miraculously heal someone that is dying by reversing their disease, but hubby does NOT pretend to be a part of these healings. He can work through doctors and modern medicine to do the same. Or He can miraculously heal by taking the person home to Heaven, where the person is made whole.

Hubby also agrees that the SBC is a mixture of both Arminianism and Calvinism.

As far as the Holy Spirit, I personally feel the most important thing I’ve learned about Him is that it’s NOT how much of the Holy Spirit that YOU have that counts, but how much of YOU the Holy Spirit has that counts! In other words, how much control of your life He has!
