Should it be legal to sell your own organs?
I think if you are going to sell your organs it can only be to a licensed doctor. This making the doctor a murderer (and you suicidal) if he buys one that you can't live without! But, I think the question was missing the part about money for them now and the doctor will collect them after death!
So you want 2 lungs, my heart, all my appendages, and my brain? Sure, that'll be $199,999.99. Now, let me go get a knife.
Government isn't meant to protect us from ourselves, it's meant protect us from invasion,
Up to a limit, people will take it two far
When has increasing the supply while maintaining demand ever led to a price increase?
So you want a food tax.
Maybe you should make a law and force people to buy $X of groceries every time they go to the store and drop it in the food bank boxes on their way out.
I'd do it in a heart beat
I would love to know how the public opinion on this topic became so divided. Like Minnesota has 226 votes and is cut down the middle. That's crazy to me.
Of the organs are perfectly fine then I don't see the problem in selling them.
I ate his liver with a nice chianti ;-)
What about synthetic organs? Biomed companies sell those to patients, so what's different between that and natural organs?
Not enough people donate food anymore.
There might be medical problems if your brother reproduced with someone who had your uterus. It's not like I know anything about the subject, I just thought there might be.
Pretty sure that's already happening now. There's no justification that the sale of organs will increase crime. I believe, if anything, supporting this issue would increase supply and thus reduce demand in every market legal or illegal. Tho should relegate to the recently dead to protect the poor.
Jonny- I don't know why there would be problems. If it was a transplant she would then own the uterus. It wouldn't be mine anymore. I would never do a surrogacy. I hate being pregnant!!!!!
I agree that it would be really weird, though!!!!
Because making something more widely available definitely makes people more likely to steal it...?
Just think if it was legal to sell food:
You would have these evil people selling it in stores for a profit!
Also, farmers would make money off it! We can't have that!
Only rich people would be able to eat because no one would donate food anymore!
I have a feeling it would make organ recipients even happier...
You'll end up with people waking up in strange bathtubs with their kidneys stolen, but sure, why not?
If I sell it for $100k I'm keeping $100k
That's still $70G in the bank
I sold my pecka and balls to a crack whore who I needed a couple of bucks from
That's your opinion. I want to be free to live my life however I wish, in any manner I choose, so long as I harm no one else.
Please, what's so crazy about that? I think that's pretty reasonable.
I like you happy, we should hang out
The red pill?
@RebelFury: I don't like the idea of prepaid either, but it does avoid the "poor people with only one kidney" argument.
@RebelFury76 I think you're overly opinionated and I am upset that you represent Minnesota. Whatever happened to Minnesota nice? You've changed it into Minnesota Crazy.
Cadavers are sold all the time. Find out how much you're worth @ cadaverforsale.com

@RebelFury: I think that conversation was overheard in the bread line outside GUM in 1984 ;-)
You're right, rebel, it's your property growing in a completely artificial birthing device. How ever could I think the fetus was a part of the woman.
Where do you think this is taking place? Craigslist and a Wal mart parking lot?
If stores were allowed to sell food they would price it so high no one could afford it! We'd be slaves to the "food corporations"! There would be rationing and only the rich would get good food. And the poor people! Think of the puppies!
How do we know the guy who had if did not have a weird disease? That's why I voted no bit I'm on the fence with this one.
No need for apologies, sometimes its difficult to infer tone through text.
I don't see why not. So long as no one is harmed by your actions I don't see why it's anyone's business but your own.
If I could profit from it, could I then let my heirs profit from it?
Got it Rebel. Sorry.
. . . And you also can't legally sell your organs. Don't matter.
Donation upon death would still exist.
Smokers, alcoholics, motorcycle riders, and skydivers all seem to be able to find insurance.
It's the same concept that is rampant in this thread. Someone disagrees with it and will use force to prevent you, a sovereign human being, from doing it.
The problem with Americans is we think we own each other. It's disgusting.
Quite correct. I would imagine that those who sell their organs will immediately subject themselves to astronomical health insurance rates OR Insurance companies may refuse to insure them because it represents a self inflicted health issue.
Absolutely. There is a Ted talk about this. Check it out.
Happy, these people actually think everyone is treated equally on the transplant list today.
Sad, I know. I wish ignorance could be treated with a pill.
My concern is that it might make it so only rich people could afford a transplant, otherwise I think you should be able to profit from it.
I have a feeling this would make lawyers very happy.
Prostitution should be legal too. The fact that two consenting adults can't exchange money for sex is crazy to me.
