Should people in the United States be forced to join the military when they turn 18?

No, would be a waste of time, talent, and money.

No, I don't wanna fight for the interests of the bourgeoisie.

Mandatory prescription is one of the things I find most concerning about Marxism Leninism. Violence is a sensitive issue morally, and not everyone is up for being a soldier, even when the cause is just.

Not everyone's fit mentally nor physically to serve.

Universal service (even if it is non military) should be mandatory

That's slavery, not freedom.

No...that's called paying it forward

No, forcing indentured servitude is the same thing as slavery.

If you're forced into service, that's slavery. You can't force someone to "pay it forward"

Lol not only does this guy have no idea what freedom means, but he also doesn't know what "paying it forward" means. Classic.

Why when someone at 18 could have better options and add more value to our country doing something else rather than joining the military.

No. Maybe at 81, though. That would make some good movies.

No. Soldiers are more committed and war-ready when they join the military out of choice rather than by force.

Too many people. It works in Jerusalem because they have few people and good use for them in mildly safe jobs.

I think that would be taking away freedom, not adding to it.

So are you for or against forcing kids into the military?

I voted for but like everything else there is no simple answer. I don't think it should be a single choice mandate but a multi option highly incentivized program. No gender exclusion. If you chose to opt out you pay higher taxes for ever.

I can't go along with that. If someone if voluntarily willing to risk their lives that's one thing, but forcing people to do it, or telling them they will pay more if they don't, isn't right. I shouldn't have to make the choice to risk my life or pay more.
