I'm starting my first job as a lifeguard today. Do you remember what your first job was?
"A lot of younger people pass by me while I'm running. It's a bit of a metaphor for the rest of my life. I turn fourty-seven in October. I'm starting to have bosses that are younger than me. It's causing me to question what my experience is worth. I'm noticing that my younger colleagues are more adventurous and take more risks- either because they don't know about failure, or don't care. As I get older, I feel like more and more of my life is out of my control. That's why I started training for the marathon. I want to be in control of something. I can't control current events. I can't control politics. I can't even control my personal relationships
Lifeguard - camp counselor
Not counting babysitting... I was a summer research assistant in a lab at a medical school the summer between high school and college, and also the following summer.
How did your first day go?
It went well. Lifeguarding (for the most part) is pretty boring, but it felt good to make my own money for once.
Thank you for asking😁
That's great - I hope it continues to go well. I don't want to wish "boring" on you, but I suppose the alternative is stressful if not frightening. I imagine lifeguards learn to live with "boring," or somehow make it interesting - while staying alert & vigilant.
Thank you.. I sure hope I don't have to "save" anyone... I have the training but I just don't want it to come to that... The good thing is that I have other lifeguards to talk to so it's not horribly boring.
My uncle was very kind enough to hire me as an assistant at the county office ☺.

Yes. Sitting in a confined trap shoot bunker setting clay pigeons for the shooters at a gun club. People would forget to let me know that I could come out of the bunker. It was a miserable summer experience to say the least. Thanks for making think about it, lol.
Mine was as a lifeguard as well.
It was at Burger Chef.
My first job away from the farm or babysitting was at a daycare. It was exhausting!
Several roles in audioplays age 8-12 or so, including a vinyl made for UNICEF about child labor in India.
