Should the U.S. embassy in Israel be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?
Yes and thankfully it did 🇺🇸🇮🇱❤️
I would honestly defer to the host country and where they would like it, and where they could most easily protect it.
No. If the other Embassies and the seat of government are in Tel Aviv, why move? To do it to appease some religious group and anger others doesn't make sense to me.
Sure? I really don't care. Whether the embassy is in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem effects me 0%. Why is this even an issue in American politics?
Absolutely. Are there other countries where our embassy is not in the capital city? Seriously, I don't know. But I doubt it. It's kinda part of what it means to be a capital. I honestly don't know why it isn't there, but it belongs there and it's not being moved there because EVERYONE is so god-awful scared of pissing off Muslims. Screw them. At least in this situation. Muslims have zero legal, historical or even religious claim on Jerusalem. They are basically there to remind the Jews to watch their backs. And their bullying puts the entire world on pins and needles in fear of "offending" the Muslims. Even to the point that mean, tough Donald Trump even wusses away from his promise to move embassy there. He was right when he called the terrorists "losers", but they seem to have beaten him by scaring him away from what isn't even theirs.
Eh...I couldn't give two shits where it is.
It would be better able to serve American citizens in Jerusalem.
And less able to serve those in Tel Aviv, so your point is moot.
I think there are more American citizens in Jerusalem.
I genuinely don't understand why it matters.
If anyone could please explain.
Not a full, complete answer, but that would be recognizing Israels capital as Jerusalem but then that would tick off the terrorist they are forced to live with in their land.
It wouldn't be prudent to be looking for a fight in that region of the world
I would agree. But from just reading a few of these comments, there seems to be some that have very little clue about this, like me, and others that seem to have a lot of knowledge and deep convictions.
Israel annexed east Jerusalem from the Palestinian Territories after a war and the change in territory is not recognized by most governments or the UN . Moving the embassy would be a giant PR mistake because it would show other countries our support of Israel in the context of the annexation of Palestinian Territories. This would show them that we aren't serious about peace because the Palestinians still consider east Jerusalem to be their stolen capital
This would lead to more anti Americanism in the Middle East and abroad for no gain
And Israel considers Jerusalem their capital. So?
A little context.
The Arab nations threatened (and still do) to kill every last Jew and drive them ito the sea. So they started a war, told the people to leave their homes for a few days while they wiped out the Jewish menace and then they could return to their homes.
Oops --they lost the war and every war after, those people that stayed are still there, those that's fled to let the army wipe out the Jews were then told stay in refugee camps, we will get world sympathy against the evil, blood drinking murdering Jews and anyway those half human Jews will kill you if you go back.
The Jerusalem issue is just another part of the narrative that peace loving Arabs have a historical right to everything in or near the holy land or else it is an offence to their religion although their claims to Jerusalem lack any historical context.
And here we are today.
Actually they took it from Jordan in the 1967 war after Jordan attacked them.
Yea you're right that's my bad. Palestinians claim it as their capital (with no legitimacy whatsoever)
Can somebody tell me why it shouldn't? I honestly don't know enough about this topic
Absolutely. Israel owns every square inch of its capital city, Jerusalem. The land was liberated 50 years ago this week in the Six-Day War. No other entity has any legitimate claim to the land.
And for the last 50 years many countries and the U.N. still do not recognise their control of east Jerusalem.. Why do you think most countries don't have their embassies in Jerusalem.
Because they hate the Jews. It's a theme running all through history. For nearly 2000 years, the Jews wandered the Earth, unable to find a suitable place to live free of persecution. But they have returned to their rightful homeland, and their persecutors don't like it one bit. And I don't care what those persecutors think. I care what God said in Genesis 12 – that the land of Israel is an everlasting possession of Abraham's legitimate descendants (through his son Isaac), and that God will bless those who bless it, and curse those who curse it. 🇺🇸🇮🇱
They were the ones who gave them Jerusalem....also Muslims are Abrahams decendents as well...he didn't have just Isaac he had Ishmael as well
I said "legitimate" descendants. The descendants of Ishmael are not the legitimate line of the promise. God promised the blessings to Abraham's natural son, not his son by a surrogate mother.
Abraham and Hagar were married when he slept with her, how is that not legitimate?
No, they were not married. She was Sarah's maidservant. Following a pagan custom from the Chaldeans, Sarah had Hagar sit on her lap so that her husband Abraham could have sex with Sarah and then ejaculate into Hagar. They only did this because God had promised them an heir, and they just didn't believe God would cure Sarah's barrenness, which He did, several years after Ishmael's birth. None of this makes Ishmael the specific heir that God had promised (i.e., the legitimate heir).
Well I don't know what bible you got that from but mine says Abraham made her his wife
That would have been polygamy, another pagan custom. It wouldn't matter in God's eyes - a polygamous marriage would never carry the same legitimacy. You are using your human reasoning to argue with God in matters of faith. The fact is that Isaac was Abraham's promised heir - the heir of the blessing. Nothing in the Bible contradicts this. Meanwhile, the entire balance of the Bible contradicts your theory about Ishmael, because he disappears out of Scripture entirely and the story continues with ISAAC's descendants.
It doesn't make a big difference to me either way, there are bigger concerns about that than just that and there are bigger concerns all over the whole world.
about that region*
Sounds like a waste of both time and money.
As quickly as possible. Jerusalem is the capital. What other country do we keep our embassies out of the capitals?
How many other countries have a contested capital, causing most of their embassies to be located in another city?
So... Israel isn't like other countries, in that the U.N. atleast recognises their capitals as their capitals
Exactly. Jerusalem is the capital. But it in the embassy is in Tel Aviv. I would like other countries putting their embassies in Chicago
Seems like we'd put it wherever Israel tells us to put it, and it seems like it's working just fine for them where it is.
Yes. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. And we don't dictate our lives according to the desires of radical terrorists.
Literally, no country recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital. It's a disputed city and should there happen to be a miracle and the two sides come to terms, east Jerusalem would belong to the Palestinians. When that happens, then West Jerusalem would be recognized as the capital.
Russia did recently recognize West Jerusalem as the capital but not the entire city.
Why spend the money? Unless Israel coughs up the cash to do it, why?
The US Embassy in Israel should be closed, not moved.
Probably not the biggest priority for the US right now. It kinda seems like it would be a waste of time and money.
Wed be moving into a hotbed where radicals from three different religions focus their attention... there's plenty of reasons why we shouldnt... what do we actually get from doing it?
1. We don't do things or stop doing things because of terrorists. We don't negotiate with terrorists.
2. Under Israeli control, people from all religions can safely and peacefully practice their religion, for the first time in history.
Yes because Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel.
*is the capital of Israel. 😃
In occupied territory? No.
To the Capital of Israel.
Jerusalem is more of a religious sanctuary for Jews, Christains and Muslims. The move would anger a few.
So they should care what a few radicals think? Why?
What's the benefits of moving it to Jerusalem?
All other US Embassys are in the Capitals of other nations. Israel is the only one where it is not. Seems odd.
Because their capital is holy city. Our Vatican embassy isn't located in Vatican city. Again what do we get from moving it?
The Vatican is its own State. Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel.
Mud ... you realize how ridiculous you sound, right?
I'm ridiculous because I'm asking what the benefits are?
It establishes that the United States backs Israel 100%. After Barry Soetoro meddled in the Israeli election to try and unseat Netanyahu, that's the least we can do and Trump promised to do it.
How does it say that? Because conservatives believe it? Like don't our actions already show that?
Mud ... nice try at making yourself out to be a victim!
You're ridiculous because you feebly tossed out the Vatican as an example of why we should keep our embassy in Israel misplaced!
But again, how does that benefit us? Isn't this a huge neocon thing?
Because it's reality.
Lol where did I make myself a victim?
It's a human thing.
Mud ... it's all about you isn't it?
Woah. What did I miss
Think you were the one who said I sounded ridiculous. I was just asking Why? Either add something or dont. But if you're just gonna be a troll I'm gonna stop responding to you
Mud ... who could expect you to fall into the leftist's final failure ... calling anyone who dares to disagree a "troll"!
Sure, it's their capital.
Yes. Regardless of what your politics are and how you feel about it, Israel's government actually IS in Jerusalem. You can pretend it's not, but it's physically located in Jerusalem and has been for a very long time.
In other words, "Do you want to start the deadliest, lengthiest Middle East war with which the US will surely be involved?"
We've already been in exactly that since 1991.
Haha, buddy, making any gestures to consider Jerusalem the capital of Israel would slippery slope into a ME war to dwarf all others.
I wish there was an "I don't really care" option for this poll.
There is! You activate it by not tapping anything. Isn't that convenient?
I don't think you can read comments and see the voting results without voting yourself, though, can you?
You are correct. I find it annoying that I must vote to read comments!!!!!!
Leave the embassy in the capital Tel Aviv. Let Jerusalem remain a holy city for three faiths and don't cause unnecessary problems in the region as it is.
The capital of Israel is Jerusalem.
Cruz, Rubio, and Heller want to restrict funding for embassy security until this move takes place, proving they never have a shit about Benghazi.
Good for them! It's more than the Jewish Democrats are doing.
That's a really stupid move.
Why would it be anywhere other than the capital?
See my poll about all of the Jewish Democrat politicians silent on the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem Day.
Only if the US is going to take severe retaliatory steps against the perpetrators of the attacks that are sure to occur against the embassy. If they are going to move it, have it attacked, and offer worthless condemnation that has apparently taken the place of retaliating against enemies, its not worth it.
They should recognize all of Jerusalem as Israel's eternal unified capital asap though.
Because crazy terrorists don't have enough targets to attack in Jerusalem...
They do, we just gotta make sure our stuff doesn't become a favorite target
Of course. Another broken promise from Donald Trump.
Ease up there, Cowpoke! Give the man some rope with which to keep the promise or hang himself!
I'm as impatient as you, but let's give him some space. If he fails I'll be there with you.
He already did, several times, as predicted.
I don't even know what cowboy is. He is against both liberals and conservatives but he isn't and Independent
He's now calling radical Islamic terrorists, "losers". 🙄
I'm an American. 🇺🇸
President Trump is disappointing in this area and a few others. He totally rocks in others though. Much better than Hillary or the baby killing libertarian candidate.
What else would you expect from a lying, abortion loving, NYC Liberal con man and TV game show host.
More than what I would expect from a morally bankrupt libertarian.
A Libertarian wouldn't of given away our military to the Islamic savages who attacked us on 9/11.
You do realize the military equipment that we sell them isn't as sophisticated as what we use right? Our Abrams, F35s, etc have modifications and upgrades that the ones we plan to sell them won't have. Heck, they probably won't even get power windows.
Yeah I know. It's Trump, so he's a genius. 🙄 If it was Barry giving US military equipment and arms to the Islamic savages, who attacked us on 9/11, you'd be losing your shit.
Cowboy, you have no idea why you are talking about. You need to stop jumping to conclusions and learn to control your emotions.
Of course I know what I'm talking about. 🙄
YES, and it should be moved today. It is time to stop the Muslim induced farce. The capital of Israel is Jerusalem. It's also time to return the Temple Mount to its rightful owners, the Jews. Today!
