Chicago is the only major city in the US to lose population and the third consecutive year to do so. Meanwhile, the IL Democrats approved a 5.4 Billion dollar tax increase. Is a 5.4 billion dollar tax increase the way to bring jobs and people back?

No, as a SoIL business owner, deregulation and mellonomics is the way to get Illinois on track.

No. Most people and businesses don't want more of their money going to the government.

People do not want to live there because of the violence. It is also extremely cold

As a (former) resident the majority of concern is under finance. The violence is well contained to very few neighborhoods.

The sky high property taxes are not, however.

Depends on what they do with the money. If they build infrastructure and educate their citizens to the point that it makes economic sense to do business there it could pay off in the long run.

Ha, nice idea, but this is Illinois, we don't do that here. We throw money at the problem hoping it works itself out.

They've been in charge of that state for decades! And their citizens keep getting killed by gangsters, with the smart ones being driven away. They're doomed.

Tribune last year surveyed dozens of former residents who had fled within the past five years, and all offered their own list of reasons for doing so. Common reasons included high taxes, the state budget stalemate, crime, the unemployment rate and the weather

In a different poll "Twenty-seven percent cited taxes as the primary reason"

So yes. Taxes on the poor and middle class are bad. I agree but am conflicted.

I understand but you have to see there is a point where taxes on the upper classes become counter productive. People with the means will leave and take their revenues with them. We are seeing that first hand in il. Then you are left with the middle and lower class still paying these taxes but now with reduced opportunities
