Are you a pacifist?
I put the fist in pacifist!
No. I'm not a war monger either.
Going to war or taking a human life ever, for any reason regardless of how "right" we consider it, is unacceptable. It creates the illusion that it is okay to kill for what is "right," when in a diverse world there are diverse ideas of what is right. It makes it acceptable to kill for anything you..
..believe in. Whether it's peace or love, slavery or equality, capitalism or communism.
To an extent, but not a total pacifist.
Define pacifist. Total non-violence may count yet simply not starting a fight might count too. I don't start fights, but I would fight to protect myself, innocents, or my country. That said I don't support all military actions either. The old saying "Speak softly, but carry a big stick" works.
No fighting is much better the more powerful win
Odd that those who believe so strongly in evolution are manifestly against competition. Doesn't make sense.
I believe a leader should sit down with the other country's leader and try to reach a common ground to what's the problem. If they can't, THEN they go to war. Congress on the other hand,,, But I am not for this kumbaya crap some Democrats are for, or the "kill, kill, kill" mentality some Repu
Republicans are for. I'm somewhat in the middle.
War never solved anything... except slavery, oppression, genocide, communism, facism, nazism, terrorism.
so if I asked you what war was good for, you might say, "absolutely nothing"?
Nothing wrong with Communism, thanks.
I'll pacifist right into your face! Hahahaha! (Get it? Pass a fist?
When I read the question, I was thinking in daily life. In that context, can't say anyone would call me that. Haha. Until I read the comments, I hadn't considered it from a citizen point of view. From that standpoint, I tend to be like most others.
I am if non-interventionism qualifies. Defensive war on our home turf against a foreign enemy is something I could support.
Tread lightly and carry a big stick. Peaceful delegations first and if no progress use the big stick
Violence is never the answer.... but it makes an excellent plan B.
Peace through superior firepower.
Self-proclaimed pacifists put us in danger of increased violence through their naïveté.
LoL Dems, guess they won't 'stand their ground' LOLZ
And republicans never shove their views on anyone, unless they look different, have different customs or disagree with you.
And the name-calling is a nice touch too
Thought you would like it. Maybe next time you will address the meaning of something before make assumptions and run with it. Reps are a diff matter all together when it comes to this poll. I'm an independent, I want freedom not chains(red or blue).
And what about Libertarians? They're not so different from you.
Libs I'm all for them most of the time
For the sake of discussion and civilized debate, why only most of the time?
So almost half of Dems on here are pacifists. I find that hard to believe.
Why is that hard to believe? Because a Democrat had to clean up a Republican's unfinished business overseas?
No tard that has nothing to do with it
Other than being opposed to war, pacifism is supposed to be about peaceful resolutions which Dems just shove everything they are about down everyone's throats.
Also, part of the literal definition of pacifism is the opposition of organizing a society or people by governmental force. Which they seem to be a huge proponent of.
Oh yea I forgot, let's try to be selective when deciding what applies to us.
Pacifism is a convenient disguise for fear.
Not saying violence is the answer to all, but realistically, it should always be recognized as a possibility and you should be prepared for it.
I don't like violence and would always try to avoid it as much as possible. But if it would protect myself or loved ones, I wouldn't just lie down and take it.
Violence is fucking delicious
I live on the east cost!
I'm always the mediator when the going gets rough in my family.
A true pacifist? No. One who believes violence should only be a last resort and almost never used? Yes.
Further, violence should only be used when violence is clearly the path being taken by the opposite party. If a country tried to invade us with a large force already on their way, we should fight back. But we should not be the ones to invade first.
Exactly how I am
the only reason for war is to protect yourself and those who can't
Yes, but I think that sometimes war is necessary.
So your not a pacifist. Change your answer. A pacifist sees violence as NEVER an option.
Do you think that pacifist's wanted to let Hitler continue to kill innocent people? Call me what you want, I believe war should be a last resort, but sometimes we must go to war to make peace possible.
A true pacifist wouldn't kill a bomber even if they knew the bomber was going to blow something up in the near future.
Here's how I see it: I don't care how old, what gender, what culture they're from, etc. If they threaten me with force (point a gun barrel at me, for example) I will shoot them to protect my life, and the lives of those around me.
No or I would not have joined the Navy during the Vietnam era.
A lot of Mennonites join the armed services and serve as medical personnel or clergy (something with a non-combat status).
Just saying...pacifists can join the military as well. ;)
I said yes because I've seen to many people get hurt in to bad of a way. I will exhaust all options before a fight except run away. Money and possessions can be replaced but stay away from my family.
"too many" & "too bad"
The grammar police
@goat: You have a huge job before you. If you merely focus on to/too, your/you're, there/their and 'adverb abuse' (e.g. real vs. really) within this site, you will have more than a full-time gig. I hope it pays well! :)
No, but they definitely have a needed place in the world to remind us that war is bad.
Yes, that is why I hire hitman to do my dirty work for me.
Bro I'm a yellow belt. Don't Fucking mess with me!! (Hopefully some of you get this)
No but at the current moment I certainly wouldn't put my life on the line for this tyrannical government. Our wars are unnecessary and our government corrupt.
This "tyrannical government" is ending our wars, not starting them.
I don't like war but it is needed sometimes.
I do not go seeking out fights, but if push comes to shove, I will defend myself or my friends/family.
Don't mistake kindness for weakness.
Couldn't agree more.
Speak softly but carry a big stick is good politics ;)
I wish this could have been more like "On a scale of one to ten"...because while I'm not necessarily a pacifist, I'm nowhere close to the opposite of a pacifist, yknow?
Violence is a necessary evil. There are many situations where the best solution is violent.
And that is why morons like you shouldn't be able to own guns. Climb back into your time machine and go back the 1800's.
I grew out of my world-hugging hippie phase.
I am a great admirer of Roman Foreign policy. It was actually illegal to outwardly conquer people. The Romans called it defensive conquest. To defend your nation from a threat you conquer and subjugate it. Always works, mostly.
Definitely a warmonger.
Worth a read and a thought
Very good read, thank you for posting.
Hell no. I am more of a hawk than you can imagine. Mccain is a pussy compared to me.
McCain is a detriment to conservatism.
Where did you got your nick from?
Oh I'm sorry...did you withstand torture as a POW? Didn't think so. Regardless of his politics (which I don't usually agree with), John McCain deserves respect for his past in the service.
Some problems need different solutions to others. No we're not apes, but we used to sort of almost be, & some things are inherent like the instinct to kill for life, food, shelter & your familys safety. Luckily we rarely have to kill for most of those things, but if one of them is threatened game on
Thought pacifist was one that has a pacifier fetish
No it's a fisting fetish.
In the Mennonite sense of the word, yes.
Non-violence on all counts, unless it is the only means to protect others. We have a moral obligation to protect the lives of others.
No I'm not a pacifier.
Only if I know I don't have to fight. But once I do, it's on.
There are usually non-violent solutions to most conflicts, violence should only be used as a last resort.
I don't even know what that means.
Are you opposed to violence? Are you a lover, not a fighter?
I'm definitely a pacifist. I will "pass a fist" across your face
You're exactly the kind of person I wish would have been a miscarriage. War may be necessary, that kind of arrogant swaggering street violence isn't.
Woahhhh Praet that is a scary statement.
Sorry I admit I went a bit overboard but for unknown reasons (I wasn't the victim of street violence) I just abhor it.
We aren't apes. If you use your fist, you ran out of arguments.
Maybe I took the pun too seriously.
Well that escalated quickly... I thought it was a good joke. Some fights have to be physical, but enjoying that form of problem solving doesn't mean you should have been an abortion... we're not apes
That's how wars escalated
"So. There's this guy, & he's gonna blow up the whole world with an atom bomb unless someone kills him first. No one else is around, & there's a machete next to ya... Whataya do?" <-- classic scenario presented after someone finds out you're pacifist
Take away the ability to detonate the bomb....
