If we increase defense spending by $50 billion, does it make for better defense?

Yes. We have a lot of non functioning military equipment that additional funding will help fix.

No, because we already spend far more on "defense" than is necessary to ensure the best possible defense, even though much of it is wasted on things that are completely unrelated to OUR defense.

Support of distant foreign nations, overseas bases, etc, that have nothing to do with defending the United States. If is about US "interests", overseas, you can bet it isn't about defense.

The Federal government has basically one job.
The defense of the citizens of the United States.
