ISIS has taken credit for the terrorist attack yesterday in England which killed 20 and injured 60. How do you feel about Trump's "travel ban" this morning?
Is the travel ban even relevant at this time?
Do we even know the bombers nationality yet?
If not, it's a little gross to use a mass terrorist attacks as an attempted justification of something that might not even be related.
The second generation is already here. When you adopt blatantly racist policies like the travel ban it is likely to drive these indigenous citizens into the arms of extremists since the West clearly will not accept them.
Think, the idea is that the time for this Muslim ban idea to even be feasible has passed. The time for an amoral isolationist scheme to be a possible solution is over and now we need to address the problem of homegrown extremism. This sort of domestic terrorism is fueled by many sources of propaganda, but the one with the most impact is the dysphoria Western Muslims feel in societies that seem to exclude them and discriminate against them based on their closely held religious beliefs. When they are not allowed to identify with the West, they will find other, more subversive elements for their identity. That's why combatting the Islamophobia promoted by this travel ban is so important
It's not a universal Muslim ban, but it's certainly a travel ban aimed exclusively at Muslim-majority countries. I use both in my terminology because even if it is not a complete Muslim ban, it is perceived as a ban of Muslims.
If the UK installed a travel ban it would not have stopped this attack. Abedi was born in Manchester decades ago. There is no flow of terrorists if they don't have to move away from their hometown to launch an attack. We have to counter radicalization, not immigration.
Glock: Whether or not the third generation of Muslim Westerners is drawn towards extremism depends largely on whether we as a society choose to alienate them.
PUH-LEZE. Muslims have royally screwed up the Middle East and now they are doing the same to Europe. Take the blinders off. Muslims don't care about you. As a matter of fact....if you are a Christian, Jew, homosexual or atheist....they would kill you in many Islamic countries.
Skin ... I get that this is difficult, it's math. You see that the terrorists seeds already in the country are "x" and the new terrorists who would enter the country are "y". Get ready, this is where it gets complicated. When you add "x" and "y" the result is GREATER THAN "x". If you prevent "y" from entering the country, then you prevent up to "y" future terrorist acts.
If pictures are required, you may want to head back to third grade.
Glock, you need to begin to view the world with more nuance. Get educated about the fact that Muslims, like every religious group, are not one homogenous body of people who can be generalized like that. Learn more about the complicated set of problems facing the Middle East, everything from economic restructuring, to authoritarianism, to oil politics, to post-colonial development (note that none of these problems are caused by the existence of Muslims and that countries like Indonesia don't face many of these issues). Once you do that we can talk, but otherwise your simplistic worldview will mean that you never engage with my arguments.
Weird how some people believe Trump was elected because "the left" was marginalizing whites, but marginalizing Muslims with a travel ban aimed at them and their rhetoric won't cause reactionary tendencies
JD ... out the kool-aid down. My Muslim friends from Indonesia are still welcome t
With MrT's non-Muslim ban of individuals from terrorist invested countries.
Mus ... nonsense, you little snowflake. It discriminates against those who would do us harm. By the way, it is the president's job to protect us from those forces foreign and domestic that would cause us harm.
MrT did precisely what he should have. Unlike the coward, MrO, MrT is doing what he can to protect us.
In my opinion, those who think we don't need it will think that way until they are affected personally by terrorism. Like the people in San Bernardino, they weren't worried about terrorism that day.
Travel ban wouldn't have prevented it from happening. Only makes the people inside that want to help their loved ones angry and tilt towards radicalizing. Bans keeps people apart not rally them together against a common enemy.
Misguided beliefs that don't mold with your beliefs don't equal radical people that want to kill you. Sorry but those numbers don't add to people willing to take their religion so far to cut people's heads off and blow themselves up. The numbers don't add up like that. That video is very misleading.
For the love of all, just because people have stated they don't want a travel ban, doesn't mean they've embraced Islam or their dark side. I wonder if there is a Muslim Glock somewhere telling fellow Muslims about how evil the whole of Christians are...
