They may believe there is a purpose but if they are atheists who ascribe to the belief that we random beings who are driven by electronic impulses rather than moral choices it is impossible for random to have a purpose.

My atheist, agnostic or religious friends all pretty much act the same. I see no difference.

As a Humanist, I ascribe meaning to fulfilling my potential, making a positive impact on others, and enjoying life.

Life's purpose is whatever you give it, and since atheists probably don't believe in an afterlife this is the only life they have to do whatever purpose it is.

I'm not an atheist but I'm guessing they say life is what you make it and purpose would be self driven

Or rather...life's purpose is whatever YOU give it

Not at all. We just don't look to a higher power for purpose

Why does life need a objective purpose? Create your own purpose! Make your destiny! And live life in the present to the fullest without harming yourself or others.

I'm atheist and I believe we are all here by chance. Our purpose in life is whatever we make it to be. Nothing more.

The purpose to life is to survive. Once you are capable of surviving, enjoy life to its fullest while doing no harm to others.

Easy peasy. No need for superstitious silliness.

I don't believe there is a universal answer to this or that atheists share a common belief in this regard. Each is going to have their own view. That said, I don't believe there is a higher purpose. But I don't view that as a problem either as I don't see the need for life to have one, at least none beyond whatever purpose we choose.

No. An atheist is someone that does not believe in a god or gods nothing more. We still think life is worth living, we still think a civilized society must have rules to live by, we just don't believe in a god that dishes out rewards or punishments based upon beliefs.

Atheists as a group do not share a particular belief...there is a lot of diversity.

We create our own purpose instead of having it dictated to us.

There is no higher purpose to life. Atheism is centered upon fore-filling ones own needs without any consequences from a higher being.

So your life is dictated by the fear of god spanking you?

It's a serous question, one that you're clearly afraid to answer.

The punishment for complete disobedience to God is far greater than a spanking.

So you act out of fear instead of doing what's right (or what you've been told to believe is right) because it's the right thing to do, correct?

I do good deeds because it honors God.

It just so happens that there's a consequence for not honoring god?

@thatguy2 think carrot and stick motivational method. Both are presumed to be present. What drives one the most will vary. I've seen wide variety among theists in this regard. For that matter, it can even be situationally dependent on what is driving them to do the right thing.

I don't. Life isn't a problem to be solved, nor has a purpose. It's a reality to be experienced, nothing more.
