Nay. Our country can't afford more spending with our current deficit and amount of debt. I know this is just a reallocation from the defense to NASA, but if we are going to cut defense it should be to reduce overall spending until we control the debt.

Wasteful spending means there is a surplus. It's a common business practice to spend on unnecessary equipment when you have a surplus in order to not lose a subsidy.

Ignore this, it's in the wrong place ^^

Would've preferred for it to come from welfare, but whatever.

Nay. This is extremely irresponsible and wasteful.

YEA. I don't like that it's coming from the military but hell we need more space research!

Nay because of section III. This is not the time to shrink our military budget.

I don't like that part either, but it is a very small amount. Space travel is something that should transcend countries, because it's something that man kind needs to do.

You're certainly right about that, but I'm skeptical about allocating funds with no clear mission.

The reason I chose the defense budget is because each year they have a surplus. The defense has no need for more money and can use a decrease to put the surplus to better use.

I have never heard of the defense budget having a surplus. Do you have a source for that?

Huge Nay!!! We don't have the money for this and we shouldn't be taking money away from defense.

We DEFINITELY have the money for this, even double NASAs existing budget is not even a hundredth of the budget

I'll vote yea if we can send rage to space first

The current budget for NASA is 18.5 billion dollars. What are they going to need with a extra 18.5 billion?

Oh, I dont know, maybe a man on mars?

Let me put it this way, if you take a dollar bill, and pretend its a tax dollar, and cut the part off the bottom that NASA gets, you wouldnt even make it to the ink.

The estimated cost to send for people to Mars is 6 billion dollars and 4 billion dollars for trips after the first one.

RagingMystic covfefe

That's mars one, which is a scam trying to steal peoples money. Their plan would kill anyone who tried it within a month, tops.

NASA estimates $100 billion dollars for six people

Jkllink VC President

The Mars mission are expected to take off by the mid 30s so they could save money (about 5 billion a year) and they will have the money to do it.

Jkllink VC President

I would support a 5 billion dollar increase but not 18.5 billion.

RagingMystic covfefe
05/20/17 11:23 am

Oooor we could increase their budget and get it done sooner. Remember last time NASA got a budget boost and a goal set to put a man somewhere?

Jkllink VC President
05/20/17 11:26 am

I just don't like the bill because it takes money away from the defense budget and continues to take money from it every year. We are 20 trillion dollars in debt, we need to start limiting money to thing that we don't need.

RagingMystic covfefe
05/20/17 11:27 am

And the number one source of money we don't need is defense. We could cut the defense in half and still be spending more than any other country in the world by far

Jkllink VC President

I believe we should be cutting spending in every budget, instead of giving it to NASA we should be giving the money back to the taxpayers.

I. NASA budget will double in the 2018 fiscal year
II. After 2018, the budget will increase by a minimum of 5%
III. Money to pay for NASA increases will come from the defense budget.
