22yo man driving a car loaded w/ 33kg of methamphetamine/across the Mexican border into California. no evidence that he played any role other than a 1 time courier. The man was poor & had been promised $1,000 to drive the car. You name the sentence

Ok, my turn. For all you that said 10 years or more, consider that in California it costs on average $71,000 per year to house an inmate. www.lao.ca.gov/PolicyAreas/CJ/6_cj_inmatecost That's $710,000 per decade. For my money I'd go with 2 yrs then deportation. He is a low-level non-violent criminal. All the rest of you that want 20 yrs....how about we put that on your dime, not mine, tyvm.

A year of probation and community service.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in meth?
Throw the book at him! 10 years sounds good.

Per NYT........In the plainest reading of federal law, a kingpin-size haul like that would be punished with a kingpin-size sentence: from a minimum of 10 years in prison to life without parole.

But was he the king pin they should be aiming for?

No, but he was caught red handed with hundreds of thousands of dollars of the meth. He loses.
I'm sure they will continue the investigation into who was behind it. It will be difficult since it came from corrupt Mexico.

See above. 10 yrs? Fine, but on your dime, not mine tyvm

When the amount of drugs is that large, it can affect many people. We either cave and continue on the same course of the problem getting bigger or hold people accountable for their actions and deter criminals. 10 yrs is the minimum and that's fair.

1 year probation as a misdemeanor with a 5 year felony suspended sentence. If he successfully completes probation, he is done. If not, he does the entire five.

1 year, and if he ever comes back it's converted to a death sentence. I don't want to pay for him to rot in our jails, but he can't come back ever. Also if this is a one time mistake to pay for his families survival he now has a chance at a life.

On your dime not mine, my friend. CA costs $71,000 per year for housing. Pay up 😱
