The Economic Policy Institute released a study estimating that employers steal $15 Billion a year in wages from employees. Have you ever been a victim of 'wage theft?'

Most companies I worked for had written policies on that stuff.

I work with a lot of companies on this very topic. Almost unanimously you are right. However, in practice they don't always follow their policies. Pressure from the c-suite often causes mid-level managers to pressure people to work off the clock. Or maybe rules on compensation are changed. Companies often file bankruptcy and leave employees in the lurch. Go to twitter and search #flsa and you will uncover countless cases. Personally, I've had tens of thousands stolen from me. Usually in unpaid bonuses & commissions. But going back as far as age 16....I had a supervisor at the grocery store I worked pressure me to falsify a time card.

I'm sure there are plenty of bad managers maybe more then plenty. I was a programmer/systems/customer trouble shooter until Peters principle kicked in with promotions. Our computer and wireroom techs hated their boss. He gave them no leash at all. They keyed his car, put gum in his office lock, took the pickup out of his phone. He would sneak in at night to check the login books, ignored them, just mean. Then I got them to manage. I was pretty well liked by my staff and I knew these folks well. First thing I did was meet with them one on one and as a group. I laid out the ground rules. Removed the leash, allowed plenty of leeway. When one crossed the line we had a chat. But that's me. I never had a negative event with my union workers. I don't believe in "It's us against them".

Then I wonder how the rest of the world treat each other. China, India, Africa and S. Or Cen America would be scary.

Yes I have, and you try to help me out. My former employer withheld wages and taxes. But he said we were independent contractors. I got paid less than a dollar an hour.

How about the money employees steal from their employers? Maybe the amounts cancel each other.

I have and it's going to be made aware tomorrow as I just noticed it the other day.

With the implementation of 'use-or-lose' leave back in '05 (I think, maybe a little earlier), I've lost a lot of earned leave, which could be translated to wages...

Everyone is under capitalism. It's just that most of it is legal.

Capitalism is the only reason why anyone gets paid what they are worth.

Ever.

People don't get paid what they are worth under capitalism at all. They get paid a fraction deemed the least detrimental to profit while still keeping them here.

That's why wages are so high i Cuba and Venezuela ...

No, capitalism improves the lives of those living under it. The best thing to happen to poor people had been capitalism.

News flash. Cuba and Venezuela are authoritarian countries. They are also heavily sanctioned and when the embargo on Cuba was lifted the capitalist countries saw that as an excuse to loot it, making things worse.

Saying "commies can move to Venezuela/Cuba" is like saying "capitalists can move to Zambia/the DRC/Somalia/other 3rd world capitalist countries". It's a joke.

You are equating capitalism with anarchy. That's a joke.

And I'm confused: Did the embargo hurt Cuba or did lifting the embargo hurt Cuba? The amount of historical revisionism needed to support communism is mind-boggling.

And since when did communism mean freedom? It has always equaled authoritarianism, and murder, and oppression.

They do more than that. Ask yourself what shareholders and owners do in a company. Do they get their paycheck by doing work to produce goods or services? They get it simply by owning something.

Back in 1999 or 2000 (not sure which, because I didn't live here then), my state passed a sales tax increase, with the extra money to go to teachers as "performance pay." It was recently discovered that for a few years, the district I worked for had been using a portion of that money to balance their budget instead of giving it to teachers. So I guess you could say that I'm a victim of wage theft.

I'm sure government loses that much in a week... tax dollars...

When I left the DoD for the FAA I lost all of the comp time I had accrued, because comp time didn't transfer between agencies at that time (it may still not). It was particularly annoying because I never wanted to work the extra time in the first place, and when required to I always wanted to be paid overtime, which was always denied and comp "paid" instead. That I was never able to take the comp time, because we were so short handed, which was the reason I got stuck working the extra hours to start with, was just brown icing on the turd cake.

I dunno if it helps to add shart sprinkles on the cake, but comp time still doesn't transfer amongst other agencies...

And I'm not sure if it's all agencies, but DoD comp time expires at the end of every year in which it is accrued. They did this to prevent 'stockpiling'....

I'm an anarchist you nitwit, I'm as anti state as I gets. But I'm also smart enough to know that taxes are payment for services rendered. We don't need the state to do them, but while they are we pay for it.
