Should the media be required to verify their news reports prior to disseminating them? Should they face liability when false news is published without verification?
In the past news was verified before it was published. That's part of good journalism.
A thing of the past, apparently. Good grammar and proper sentence structure is apparently an expensive luxury!
No. If you believe the reporting on MSNBC, CNN or have subscriptions to the NY Times or Washington Post, your should be prohibited from voting. You are obviously too smart/educated to be allowed to vote.
The only thing intelligent about The NY Times is the crossword puzzles!
Who's doing the verification? Needs to be independent (which is hard to do) and seen as 100% false in a nonpartisan way (also very hard to do)...
Based on all of the insufferable lying crap that President Trump has had to deal with, I have absolutely zero confidence in the so-called free press and the pompous incompetent establishment politicians. In short, ethics and trustworthiness are a thing of the past. After the events of this past week, I trust no one!
Has President Trump read even one sentence of the Constitution?
This user is currently being ignored
Has he had one court rule in favor of Trump in any of his EO lawsuits? I feel like his orders have been ruled unconstitutional every time...
Numb, I bet Vice President Pence is picking out carpet for the office.
Well we just got our special counsel to oversee the investigation so obviously something is there.
Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago for over 12 years. You cannot compare his knowledge and understanding of the constitution to Donald Trump.
Obama was an Adjunct Professor, which is not a professor at all. Shucks, I had that title when I taught night graduate school classes for the college where I got a Masters degree. Obama knew the Constitution well enough to easily violate it and get away with that.
Frankly, Washington DC is a swamp that sucks taxpayer dollars out of the economy and gives back little in return. Trump is dedicated to fixing that and will be lucky to get out alive!
Activist liberal judges would never place politics before the law, would they?
Yes. And if it turns out that it's false , they should be fined and not allowed to publish for a month, by the FCC. (Paper or tv).
Same thing as when a college football team cheats.
No, although it would be nice if you could easily trust that all news has been verified and politically nonbias, there is no reasonable way this could be done. Would they have to check in with the gov't or some private business? Who would watch the watchmen?
They could seek confirmation from an independent source. Using anonymous sources who are probably criminals or worse should always be checked and double checked!
Verify how? With who?
Uh, ok. Now try answering my question.
WHOM are they supposed to verify these things and how is what they are asking.
Btw, they didn't use fallout 4 footage to prove anything, just as a graphic in the background, but nice mental gymnastics.
Yes, I saw it. It's call B-roll. It's just to look at. Do you know how journalism or informational writing works? Clip art isn't used at a source, with the exception of any graph or chart.
I don't know why I'm bothering though, because you clearly aren't interested in answering the question posed to you, nor do you comprehend your own topic of conversation.
...I can't believe I'm having this conversation. Are you older than 14?
No reasonable person could possibly believe that a graphic is "proof" of some hacking (nor was it presented as evidence) as if CNN had a camera pointed at a hacker's computer screen as they used it.
Lock him up, lock him up!
Journalists are so anxious to get the news out, in an era of instant social media, that they sacrifice accuracy for speed. Anonymous sources can be, and usually are, liars. Throw in a biased journalist, and we have a problem. We were better off with slower means of communication.
They do face liability, it's called stop fucking watching that network and giving them revenue - AKA the free market.
There "was " a rule in place, called the "fairness doctrine" but Ronald eagan got rid of it back in 1988. Giving rise to Fox news and radio shows like info wars. Since then the so called free market in this regard has failed miserably along supply side or trickle down economics . Thanks Ronny
