Do you have a good hygienist that helps you brush and floss correctly?

Sort of... There have been a series of shake-ups at my dental office in the last 9 months or so. I had a *great* hygienist for a couple of years, but she switched to another office (it's a regional practice). At my last couple of visits, the *dentist* was doing hygiene. She was great at dentistry (plus we also had great discussions about research in general and history of HIV research in particular; she was in public health research before going to dental school) but the hygienist was really better at hygiene, I think.

(And now, my favorite dentist has disappeared, the practice closed the office I was going to, so I have to go to a different office myself, and I'm overdue for an appointment...)

Nothing gives me more anxiety than shake ups at the dentist. I love my hygienist and would hate to lose her. She is very good and has taught me so much.

My dentist is so mellow he calms me down.

I had a great dentist where I lived previously. He was also on staff at the medical school where I worked as a postdoc, and had even published a couple studies (on oral tumors) with my boss. He used to tell me funny stories from his own research years while he worked on me.

He was the first medical professional who took my issue of sensitivity to local anesthetics (not really an allergy, although it might as well be) seriously, and knew how to deal with it - your comment about calming you down reminded me of that. It's an issue that I have to be alert about in every medical setting. Dentists may encounter it more often than most.

Any time I head to the doctor or dentist I am anxious and my labs and blood pressure show it. I try to talk myself down mentally but the older I get the harder it is to control. I had to change primary doctors last year and they wouldn't let me leave the clinic until my blood pressure went down. She added another blood pressure Med for mornings. Seems to work because my blood pressure was 102/60 yesterday.

This is funny i literally just had a cleaning! She told me im doing everything right and am one of their cleanest braces patients! I appreciated them water flossing me rather than using the threader, the angle is horrible for another person doing it to you. No cavities at all!

Awesome! Cleaning your teeth is very important when you have braces or your teeth can look awful when they come off. You get a gold star and a bright smile! 😁🎉⭐️

That's the best feeling! Your teeth feel so good after a cleaning.
