Allied countries experience the benefits of the US military much more than Americans do (the US would be relatively safe from invasion with just our nuclear arsenal and the 2nd Amendment). Is US military spending basically foreign aid?
The United States benefits from free and secure allies. We also benefit from the demilitarization of previously armed powers that destabilized the world on several occasions.
