People more likely to locate North Korea on a map are more likely to favor diplomacy over military action. Geographic knowledge contributes to an increased appreciation of the complexity of geopolitical events. Should we emphasize geography studies?

I agree, but disagree with the cause and effect correlation in your example.

We should know where things are. I can locate it, but I'm also good with blowing them off the map.

Understanding relationships is far more important than understanding geography.

Geography is a major driver of international relationships.

You clearly don't understand formal geography. It's a study of systems, right @kimbobee ?

At the end of the day how people choose to interact and for what reason is the important portion of both history and of current events.

Yep! It's a study of spatial interactions. In other words, geography is the study of "what is where, why is it there, and why should we care?"

There's so much more to geography than just memorizing countries and capitals.

Geography needs to be emphasized way more than it is. I'm an ex-geography major, so...

We used to have geography contests in 8th grade. I thought it was a lot of fun and it helped to remember locations of the countries and our states.

Everyone should have basic knowledge of the world around them. I would think if you graduated from high school you would have this. Sadly that doesn't appear to be the case in this country.

For the record, geography is the study of systems - physical, human, and the interaction between the two.
