Which of these professions do you think contributes most to society?
Teachers are the most valuable because they're the ones who shape each and every other profession including all of those listed. Without teachers we would be no where in the world.
MilSo here, being in love with a soldier shows the true importance of his fight, he's there fighting so you don't have to.
Funny thing is, the highest rated is the lowest paid. That's f'ed up.
I said teacher even though only 5% of them are halfway decent at their profession.
If people are properly educated they are far less likely to accidentally or intentionally start a dangerous fire. Teachers win again. Funny to me, a teacher, that the #1 is the least paid.
Furthermore, people who dnt have any background in education shouldn't be allowed to create laws regarding it. We are the #1 place in the world for generating curriculum theory.
But 31st in the world for educating people under the age of 18. Every country in the world comes to us to figure out how best to educate their children, but we refuse to follow our own experts advice and opinions.
Okay so lets take a society with no firefighters but everyone is properly educated on fire safety, accidents still happen and if this is an apartment complex then that's multiple homes destroyed, firefighters are required for large civilizations.
I think a farmer should be on that list because agriculture effects everything. Without it, we would all be naked and hungry.
Being a teacher is a noble career and I think they deserve better pay.
Doctors care for the sick and wounded. They save people's lives and bring new life into the world. I'm a little sad coming in at 8%, haha. ???? I would think teacher/doctor/scientist would be tied for first at least, but I guess I'm biased!
Doctors can help but like most things these days most doctors are all about the $ . Get you IN PILL $ OUT CHECKUP $
But the good ones are awesome
I can read all these comments but rather than thanking a teacher, I'll thank my mother who gave me far more education than any state approved teacher.
If no one stopped fires from spreading, the world would become a ball of ash and water!
What could contribute more?
Thus a firefighter contributes something for everything that everyone else contributes, provided the contributed item can burn of course.
I simply can not understand why the votes are so few for firefighters.
C'mon you fire fighter lovers, you do not want to be last to those parasitic bizness fellas!
Wow. That shocked me. I am biased because I'm a teacher and a part-time solider but I didn't expect to see teachers at the number one spot. Like they say "teachers are the ones that create all other professions by inspiring" or something like that
Positively everyone but exec and clergy, sometimes but rarely exec or clergy, mlk was a positive, but a monkey will dance in a neon green tutu next to alpha centaurs singing Macarena before execs and clergy become overwhelmingly positive
Parents used to be the most influential until the Federal Government got involved.
Ahhh way to keep a fun poll needlesly political. You go girl!!!
Both soldiers and teachers are equally important to me because the teacher teaches the soldier and the soldier protects the teacher and/or the people.
Without soldiers there wouldn't be an America.
Ok who is the joker that said clergy?
Where is Farmer?
Busy taking massive government subsidies
No love for the business exec? I'd put em second to teacher. Jobs, growth, pay checks. Even though most get paid too much.
Business execs are "evil" or something
All of these positions are integral to our society, however, our teachers help shape us ((along with our parents)). It was with teachers' influence that I found my aptitude & got into science...which I would select as the second most contributory.
Without teachers (in some form) the rest wouldn't even exist. Do you want a doctor that never went to school?
Teachers contribute in the most varied way, but I think it's tough to say they make the "biggest" contribution. America couldn't be what it is today if any one of the professions on the list were to disappear.
What, no garbage collector, sewage or waste refiner?
Can you read? Thank a teacher!
It is possible to teach yourself to read or have a friend or family member teach you. I would want a self taught DR trying to diagnose me.
Can you read English? Thank a Marine!
Without teachers, all other professions wouldn't be possible.
Contributes the most and is paid the least. Messed up priorities.
Teachers are typically paid much more than police & fire.
With out firefighters, a small fire could grow to the size of a city!
...contribute...most. No one said they don't contribute!
Frankie says relax!
I'm not arguing your logic! Lol it's right on! I just think that scientists contribute more.
And how could a scientist do anything if his/her lab was on fire?
I will admit that scientists contribute to an extreme degree, but a firefighter prevents what has been contributed from being destroyed.
Clearly you're a firefighter, married to a firefighter, or you're child is a firefighter.
My brother is a firefighter with the U.S.N. (crash and salvage) so I decided to ask him for your sake. He agreed with you (of course) that firefighters are...
...extremely important. But you are missing what the question is really asking. Again, contributes. Adds to society. Gives to society. While firefighters "provide" a service. Or "give" peace of mind. They can't contribute how a scientist can. Let's..
...use NASA for example. Without many of their programs the world would be RADICALLY different. We have eradicated diseases in labs. Built limbs for missing soldiers. Not to mention that foam that firefighters use? Was chemically created. In a lab.
If you only consider contributing to be the act of adding NEW items to the world, I would agree with you...
But contributing is more than that, although most see it only as that.
And by the way, I know nobody that is a firefighter, and I am a
Lol no you're not.
You are no scientist. Just because you watch re-runs of Beakman's World doesn't make you a scientist! Don't get me wrong, I love that show but Bill Nye the Science Guy was way better.
I'm stuck because they really wouldn't have one without the others.
I'm a scientist. I voted for doctors.
Teachers, but only the truly good ones.
Teacher. Someone had to teach the farmer how to calculate how many people a bushel of corn can feed
Now let's ask who makes the least money. I bet you Teachers would still win the vote. Haha
Clergy, police, fire typically make less than teachers. Especially if you compare hourly rates.
The 4% that said clergy should be slapped
Scientists cure disease help create new products make modern everything what it is
Teachers get two months off and can be replaced by google
Scientists > teachers
Without teachers scientists disappear. There is only so much google can teach you, and google cannot teach the finer things when it comes to science.
What teacher told Einstein theory of relativity?
Teachers can be replaced by google...wow.
I say scientists. You can always teach yourself. Well, maybe only if you're a scientist.
Without teachers, my field wouldn't be as great as it is today.
Poor lawyers. We get no love. Ever. Hehehehe.
lol sorry. limited space for options :)
I put scientists. While teachers have a large influence on people, scientists contribute more to society through the advancement of knowledge and technology.
I totally agree it amazes me what science comes up with. There's a Facebook page that puts what science did this week post on and it's some crazy stuff.
Don't talk about what it is to be a soldier if you've never been one, without soldiers you'd all be dead regardless of what you believe or what your opinion is and guess what, there goes your society
What exactly would we be dead from? Other soldiers?
Yes give it a thought. If we didn't ever have an army to protect our nation what would stop enemy territories trying to come and conquer, you need a defense to sustain, scientist and teachers make contributions due to freedom
Soldiers are only necessary when there are other soldiers. They contribute only when they threaten society themselves. We aren't talking just America. Soldier is a profession throughout the world. If there are no soldiers. What does the world lose?
Yes your right and I wish that was the cause where we lived in a world were we never needed soldiers, but with our human nature war is inevitable due to many reason thus you need a military
Yes, in no way are soldiers unimportant. War is a fact of life and we must live with it. Soldiers give the ultimate sacrifice we owe everything to them. But I feel war to be counter productive, so that is why I didn't choose soldier.
With out science there wouldn't be any weapons or armour for the soldiers
Yes you are also right, but you don't necessarily need our modern day weapons or armor to fight war. Think back to the old days where they used things like sticks and stones. If one wishes to cause harm they can regardless of technology.
My vote might be biased sense my brother is in the army.
I chose scientist because advancements in science help all the other options contribute to society, except the clergy.
It's teachers. And, in this country the majority of them are liberals. That's why we have a society that values their entitlements over their responsibilities. Better teachers, better societies.
0% of dems picked clergy.
Because modern mythology doesn't help a society.
Maybe THAT'S what we need. A MODERN mythology. Tesla could be Moses and Hawking could be a kick-ass Saint Pete!!
Just think how much more advanced we could be as a race if clergy hadn't killed or jailed anyone who said the earth was round, or illness was something other than demonic possession for 1000s of years.
Without the Soldier, you would have no society. Thank you for those who served.
Without the scientist he wouldn't come with drones, bulletproof vests, armored ATVs, night vision/thermal goggles, and satellite comm. Without the teacher, he couldn't read the manuals for all of these.
Without the clergy, he won't have the fear of God to get back alive! ;)
Soldiers fought for your freedom long before that crap was invented.
Without the soldier, there would be no need to protect society.
Let's look at it this way. If you had to choose one of these professions, then the remaining professions suddenly disappeared throughout the world. Which would you choose?
For many SoHers, the business exec!
I think that, without soldiers, none of the other professions would be able to have the freedom in what they do. Teachers in my experience have been very... Lets say "unionized," where all the bad teachers get to stay because of tenure...
Not all states have teacher unions. Texas doesn't so no tenure issues.
Soldiers may not exactly contribute to society, but without them other professions may not be able to contribute to society. Or their contributions to society could be forced by governments.
Don't governments control soldiers? Soldiers without governments are either mercenaries or rebels aren't they?!
