A job applicant is told that they will not be hired because the business has enough people of their skin color working there already. The applicant is white. Is this racist?

Let's focus on qualified candidates instead of race.

The first place that could stop racism is colleges. Applications blind to race.

@Madcow, it's interesting that you posted that on this one rather than the other one. Is racism a one-way street to you?

It's happened to me. Because of my last name they thought I was black. I walked in and they did not hire me because they were trying to fill a quota.

Aren't companies not allowed to discriminate against prospective employees by race? I thought that was a law. Of course it's racist.

In theory. In reality, sometimes the most competent candidate gets passed over because a business has to meet their racial hiring quotas.

Isn't affirmative action reverse racism in disguise. If companies have quotas to fill that's racism.

As someone pointed out to me. It's not 'reverse racism.' It's just racism.

Anytime race is used to hold someone back or to promote it's racist.

Or be admitted or denied college entrance

Yes to both of these questions. Very problematic, divisive way of thinking when the real focus should be on abilities.

Content of character, and marketable skills over skin color? Finally, we agree. ;)
