Hypothetical: you're trying to pitch your religious beliefs in 10 words or less to a person who believes the exact opposite. What do you say?

Maybe you shouldn't trust your whole life to a book...
Maybe you should. The Bible is not "just a book." It is a historical account of Jesus's life.
FREE Forgiveness and Salvation!!! Simply accept Jesus into your heart.
Jesus says love everyone
Um...pics or it didn't happen?
"I am the way and the truth and the life..." Jesus Christ, paraphrased in John 14:6.
God knows all your flaws and loves you none-the-less.
Humanity will never know.
I believe in a greater power but not God.
What is that power?
I'm on a journey of discovery within myself to find my place in the universe. Although i often stumble, Kindness steps through the door first.
Sorry, I couldn't do it in 10 words.
The cool thing about Christianity is the knowledge that we are all sinners. No one is perfect. We all stumble and fall. We should strive to be like Jesus, but ultimately, it is by faith alone, not actions or deeds that leads to forgiveness of sins.
I think that if pushed into it, a person truly doesn't follow a faith. They must find it for themselves. All my life people have pushed me towards Christianity. I just haven't taken to it yet.
You can take a horse to water......
God is a hoax.
This person gets it.
Relationship, not religion. Let me know if you wanna talk. :)
I'm so happy to see that some of my favorite users are Atheists like me :)
Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration.
Do onto others as you would want done to yourself! = 10
Words to live by!!
Unless you're into S&M, of course....
I don't have any religious beliefs.
Unless your advocating atheism, don't push your religion on others.
As a agnostic/atheist I find that to be hypocritical.
Why? Atheism isn't a religion. It advocates the end of religions.
Honestly, that crappy clause inserted into the bible to go 'spread the word' has caused more death and destruction than just about anything else in the history of mankind. To ask them to stop is the right thing to do, don't you think?
I agree with v. That is not right at all. Atheists don't get a free preaching pass.
True, but as we advocate for the religious to not push their beliefs, neither should we. We should remain passive, but knowledgable when asked. We can't expect others to change if we don't lead by example, by showing patience and reason.
...and yes, it should be "you're" in the question.....oops....
Moon- my religion isn't hurting anybody. It's a code that I choose to adhere to, I'm not making anyone else follow it. If anything it's bringing more good into the world. Not all religion is hateful; in fact the majority of it isn't.
Moonshot you gained a new follower. Very good comment , I couldn't agree more!
Except Atheism is not a belief. It is not a religion. It is simply a lack of a belief in a god or gods. Science is the method to advocate as a world view, not religious mythology.
Rlands the only religion that hasn't hurt anyone is Buddhism
Patron check out the 969 movement. Even some Buddhists can get violent.
But I guess I live by a different religion than the people who claim to kill in the name of religion. You can't take outliers and base the entire religion's reputation on them.
Atheism is a belief, it may not be a religion but it represents a specific belief.
Ok so all religious then.. I believe god is energy. All of us and the world share it. If anything the Sun is my god and I worship it every Sunday at the beach :) without it no one would be living. In greatful to the sunrise everyday!
Atheism is not a belief.
Calling Atheism a belief is like calling bald a hair color.
Agnosticism is the lack of a belief one way or the other. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. I did read that article, but I don't agree with the reasoning. A lack of belief is uncertainty, atheism is a certainty.
atheism is a certainty of non-belief ;)
You're confusing a belief with a disbelief. Atheism is a disbelief in the existence of any deity.
You are getting caught up in semantics. What then, is the difference between agnosticism and atheism?
Looks like I came into this s little late, but way to quote a very small fraction of history to generalize an entire religion.
I practice agnosticism, the different for atheism is that they don't believe in any god or higher power. I on the other hand believe there is a form of god.. But not any religion. Just some something.
An agnostic holds the view that God is unknown and probably unknowable. In other words, he is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god.
And what would you call a person who believed in the non-existence of a God? I don't really want to spend too much time debating this ideological difference. I just think that if you believe there is no God, then that is a belief. We can disagree.
Agnosticism always seemed like a fuzzy way to live for me. I needed a commitment. With Atheism I could take a stand! I disbelieve in god! Woohoo! :)
Atheism is 100% a belief. You believe there is no god. Agnosticism isn't a belief. It is the suspension of belief. Atheism then requires just as much faith as theism.
Truth! (Get it?)
Which sounds more appropriate: 'I disbelieve in Bigfoot' or 'I believe in the non-existence of Bigfoot'? The first one, right? The second way of saying it is just too convoluted. Atheism is a disbelief, not a belief.
@moonshot. Do to have an opinion about whether god exists or not? If you do, you have a belief. It's that simple.
"I believe god doesn't exist." -belief
"I believe god exists." -belief
"I don't know whether god exists so I suspend belief." - disbelief
Positive belief in non-existence is still a belief.
There has been a lot written about this subject. Go read up about it. The case for disbelief has been made much more clearly than can do here in this forum. Webster's defines Atheism as a disbelief in a deity. Take it up with them!
I have an opinion on religion. That opinion is that god doesn't exist. It's all about how you word it, you're picking on the silliest parts. It's a lack of belief. Not a belief.
If you ask yourself whether you believe in god…and then you answer that question, you have a belief. Disbelief in existence necessitates positive belief in non-existence.
I don't why you guys are trying to avoid that you believe something. Just…
…accept you have a belief that requires faith and be done with it.
This argument has been done thousands of times. Logic and even semantics is on my side. Go research it yourself. You need to take your blinders off on this one. Disbelieving in something is not the same as believing something doesn't exist.
Sorry moon but ill be the tie breaker! Vitas is right.. You are placing your faith or believes that there is no god. Both of you are placing all your eggs in one basket. I an on your side and it is common sense to not believe mythical stuff.
Sorry, but I disagree completely. Faith is not needed to be an atheist. It does not take faith to not believe in something. I don't believe that there are 16,000 pound cockroaches living in Iowa. Does that take faith? I don't believe in a lot of ...
I believe something, but that's because I'm not an atheist. Some people would consider it religious. I wouldn't.
... of things. Why is faith needed for disbelief? Atheism is NOT the opposite of religion. It is simply the lack of belief in a deity, nothing more. No faith is required. It really is as simple as that!
Moonshot is correct. It's not the same. A lack of belief is just that simple. It's not a faith, a religion, or belief; it's a lack thereof.
Ok I will concede, you are right.. Let the religions argue who beliefs they think is right and who is wrong.
Atheism isn't a belief so it shouldn't be up for debate.
You guys are completing ignoring the fact that every single aspect of god's existence is inherently unknowable. So to claim any knowledge ("I believe god exists" or "I BELIEVE god doesn't exist") is 100% faith-based. I can reasonably say there aren't
…16,000 lb roaches in Iowa because we know the nature of cockroaches and what and where they tend to be. It would still rely somewhat on faith, but not entirely so. With god, we know NOTHING. So to claim anything other than "I KNOW NOTHING" requires…
…a great deal of faith. Atheism is the belief that god doesn't exist. We don't know that he doesn't and have nothing upon which to form a reasonable conclusion so it is all faith based.
Forming an argument FOR the existence of god is based on faith. Forming an argument against is not having that faith. Or just not even caring. Whichever.
You continue to misdefine atheism. It is defined as a lack of a belief (or a disbelief) in a deity. A belief has nothing to do with it. This is not a semantics issue, either, but a real definition of the term that you are refusing to acknowledge.
I'll say it again, Disbelief in existence necessitates positive belief in non-existence unless you're not claiming belief either way (which is AGNOSTICISM). It's only merely disbelief if you're an agnostic.
God has helped me, he can help you as well
^thats what I would say, though I don't usually bring up god to people who don't believe unless they ask me about it. Everyone has their own beliefs. I think this is a good question though :)
Love is my religion.
Ziggy would be proud!
Saw him perform live- looks just like his dad, I really wish Bob was still alive too!
Me too, they have a beautiful perspective.
I behave decently without a reward or punishment after.
Being a good person is all that matters.
Wasting your time.
Open your mind to the possibilities.
I'm right and you're wrong. And no, I'm not trying to be an asshole.
You can't rationally refute someone else's religious beliefs because they are rooted in faith.
I don't. I'm agnostic. I don't think you can really know one way or the other and I'm completely fine with that and I'm completely fine with other people believing what they believe or what works best for them. It's not my place not do I want it to b
Not my place to tell others what I think they should believe, nor do I want it to be*
I should not have to convince you to my beliefs, look at my life and my values and if you feel you need more in you life consider my faith cause it helped me get where I am.
The universe is my god
I don't see any reason why I would need to "pitch" my religious beliefs to someone. They're my beliefs because I belief them; they aren't religious truths. But I guess I would say "my morals are catholic morals. I like them, you mightn't."
And I get to use a cool contraction to fit then word quota :)
A powerful, corporate church decided the content of the Bible.
