In the wake of the UN dancing to the tune of the Obama administration? No. Punish the source.

I agree that other nations need to contribute more. However, the USA should not stop funding the UN it is a very important organization and should be strengthened.

Israel is breaking an agreement by making those settlements. I don't have a problem with Israel but they need to stay on there land

The un is supposed to be democratic, you shouldn't punish a majority vote, that's what you call a power play

12/28/16 1:43 am

We don't owe Israel and the Jewish elite shit! Let them pay for their own stuff! They are doing fine on their own! I'm tired of our tax dollars going to foreign countries when so many of our own people suffer.

Not just cut funding, kick them out of our country. I say we just get out of the UN altogether. Wonder what would happen then. It needs to go the way of the League of Nations. It is no longer of any real value and we need to stop pretending it is.

When we had a chance to vote for or against condemning Israel, we abstained. We'd lose a lot of credibility if we cut funding now.

ccc1 Georgia
12/26/16 12:32 pm

What a joke. Do you think we have any credibility for the last eight years? We are the laughingstock of the world thanks to Obama. There is zero respect for us in the world. Look at this last European get together. We weren't even invited! We've gone from having influence to come and be seen but not heard to the little kiddie table to not invited at all. And when they have no choice but to have us there we run and hide.

That's funny. That's almost the exact opposite of true. World opinion of the USA has improved in the last 8 years.
Well that's according to Pew, Gallup and BBC. But your sources are probably just as reliable

AdamW, the United Narions is a nest of vipers in our backyard. We should cut our payments to the UN in half. As an organization, the UN is no better than the defunct League of Nations. We can't get out of the UN, because we have to keep our right to veto their stupidity. Israel captured that territory after being attacked by its Arab neighbors. Keeping the territory increases Israel's security in the event that the savages try it again. You worry about credibility, lack of credibility doesn't seem to hold the UN back. To cut expenses, UN Headquarters should be moved to the island of Malta.

adamw Ohio
12/28/16 3:44 pm

A nest of vipers is a huge overstatement because the UN won't do anything against us. I agree though that they're not doing much, and I'd wish they'd do more. To be clear, I think we shouldn't cut funding because it's good for the United States to show that we're open to discussion with other world leaders. One way of doing this is through the UN

It is so sad but most people really don't get this. They refuse to believe it. And the similarities to this kind of thing and what the Nazis did is scarily similar. It's so horrific people just can't fathom it so they don't believe it's true even though that is the reality.

leader77 California
12/26/16 12:11 am

Yes, cut funding. However, we abstained from the Israel vote which would make the $ cut look unfounded.

Since there will never be world peace we should stop funding the u.n. Cause they cant do their fucking job. Not like they are promoting human rights either.

Should we cut funding to the largely useless and ineffective body that only exists because we fund it, despite the fact that the aforementioned body routinely criticizes us? Im gonna go with "hell yes" - but only because I'm in a good mood and will hold back what I *really* think

We should not cut funding or support of the UN, and should work to be a better world partner rather than as self-appointed evangelists for "democracy". Regarding the vote on this resolution specifically, we should have sent a more unified message by affirmatively voting in support of it rather than passively supporting it by abstaining.

Yea you know what. The U.N. doesn't like the United States. Maybe that's because they are "suppose to be" a peacekeeping and diplomatic force. Entities such as the united States with a war like, nearly imprerilistic, foreign policy, don't really grind well with peace. The U.S. is the most egregious threat to International Security; with our proxy wars thought the middle East and Africa. Our off the charts military industrial complex which is needlessly big for a civilized nation. Not to mention our intelligence services our known around the world for pretty much the hand of the devil. Seriously. Read the book "Legacy of Ashes". The CIA has done insanely fucked up shit and you wonder why the peace lovers of the world don't like us? Really? Really? You think they are the bad guys and we are the good guys? Damn. The UN is useless because of countries like the USA. Who pathetically spit in the face of international law and lug around big guns Incase anyone has something they want.

PeopleAreDumb Nursing School
12/25/16 10:51 am

How about we just decide for ourselves what to do instead of relying on another entity to take our sovereignty

phalnx Ohio
12/25/16 11:16 am

We do. America doesn't recognize International Law, and we can veto anything the UN tries to pass. As I said, it's better to share the load than be 100% on the hook ourselves, as we are in Iraq. How many trillions has that cost us?

Think Lovin Life
12/25/16 9:25 pm

Phal ... so, let's cut the lease and cut the UN lose to move out of the US, and then let's spend our philanthropic dollars on projects that actually work.

phalnx Ohio
12/26/16 7:16 am

It's not philanthropy, Think. If a world crisis comes up, the UN is the least expensive way to deal with it. Imagine what Libya and Syria would be costing us if we hadn't stayed within the UN...more trillions we don't have. The UN's cheap.

phalnx Ohio
12/26/16 7:18 am

Plus it doesn't paint a target on our backs. If terrorists oppose the UN, they oppose most of the countries of the world.

Phal ... what do the half million dead Syrians and Libyans think of the UN and MrO's support of it?

phalnx Ohio
12/28/16 6:04 pm

Don't know. I haven't asked them. Assad is the one who has to answer for it, not us. How do all those people killed by IS feel about us taking out Saddam Hussein? I know a few radical terrorists have given us their opinion about it.

phalnx Ohio
12/28/16 6:19 pm

I wish we could just go in and wipe out IS and Assad, but if we did it would all blow back on us always has. We armed the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan...they became the Taliban. We can't help them. :(
