Should the government require that all people have life insurance policies?
Taxation is theft
And this is why the individual mandate in ObamaCare is BULLSHIT.
No. It's just a good thing to have, but it's not the role of gov't to force you to get it. We've seen what the disaster called the ACA has done to premiums, etc.
No, life insurance, for most people, is not required. Having a nice nest egg is much more valuable than dumping money into someone else's pocket "in case you die" within the next certain number of years. And whole life is a straight up scam.
Possibly just enough to pay for burial expenses?
The government should butt out of peoples' lives.
Well sure. Then they could tax it and steal most of it from our families. Genius.
If they have children
Life insurance is to cover expenses in the event of your death. If I were to die my life insurance needs to cover my funeral expenses and help my dependents. If my parents died they don't need life insurance. Their estate can cover funeral expenses. Their children are independent. The surviving parent has enough to retire.
You might as well require universal car insurance, even for people without drivers licenses.
I'm pretty sure this is talking about healthcare insurance not life insurance.
Requing life insurance is like requiring healthcare plans have maternity coverage. Why the heck does a 40 year old male with no dependents need maternity coverage!?
Everyone should have life insurance. Mine is $125k and I already told my mom with 50% of that I want a statue for my head stone lol
Life insurance doesn't benefit me at all until I'm dead.
Why? Many people don't need life insurance. Besides, it's none of the government's God damned business.
Quit forcing us to do stuff. Let us live in peace without breathing down our necks.
The only thing the government should require is leaving people alone to make their own decisions.
Picked no, as almost everyone dies with enough of an estate to get toasted to dust and dumped. It just doesn't seem like deadbeat deaders are a public burden.
Medical insurance and life insurance are two totally different animals.
The less government regulations & laws the better. We should all be adult enough to take care of our own needs; and i do not need a baby sitter.
I wonder what that would do to the murder rate...
A lot of the people complaining about how "the government needs to stop tell me what to do!!" Are the same people who want to ban abortion...the irony
Not really. We just have strong opinions about the scope of government. Government should ban murder. Government should not define and enforce fiscal responsibility.
May not be a conservative or populist, but THANK YOU!
That was intended for coring
Why? So the government can tax that to.
Is there anything that republicans don't blame on democrats? This isn't even a democratic principle and yet there's still people blaming it all in the democratic party😂
It's definitely a left wing principle. Just add in a tax on the rich to allow poor people to have free life insurance and it's ready to add to the democrat platform!
Read my words, keep the Federal government out of all my business, that includes my life insurance‼️
People are DUMB not to get it but it should not be forced.
Why? I don't and won't have debts and I'm being cremated. No need for life insurance.
Not my spouse, not my kids, not my business (or the Federal Governments)❗
@rj1969. If you are talking about money for them if I die, to make ends meet, my SO is in law and I'm in computer art. If anything, she's the breadwinner, and I'm most likely to be the one that works from home or is just the house dad when we have kids.
Government should not mandate us to purchase anything
See original post
But you are only required to purchase liability insurance and then only if you are driving a car. This only protects other people, does nothing for you.
The government should not be mandating that we give money to private businesses.
And what do you mean it does nothing for me? It provides insurance when you get into a crash that's your fault...
When you get in a crash that's your fault (unlike funeral expenses) the liability can be catastrophic. The insurance protects the people in the other car that you owe money to.
Your insurance makes you pay your deductible, makes you pay your monthly premiums, jacks up your monthly premiums because you are a risky driver. There's really not a lot of protection for you. You could still go bankrupt.
Yea... and I should be able to take care of it on my own if I want too... what don't you understand about the government should not force private citizens to give money to private companies
Oh you mean more government intrusion.
No, thank you.
I don't understand why people are thinking this is a liberal policy. It's forced personal responsibility. Just like forcing people to pay for their own health insurance, it's forcing them to be personally responsible for their own expenses. A more liberal approach would be to handle these expenses through a government insurance program financed by tax payer dollars.
"It's forced personal responsibility"
...and that's exactly the problem. Many people (myself included) believe that it is immoral for the government to use its monopoly on force (a monopoly which it shouldn't have in the first place) to control behavior unless the behavior in question tangibly harms the life and/or property of another person.
Any behavior which does not violate the non-aggression principle (including all victimless crimes) should be legal. Forgoing life insurance does not tangibly harm others in it of itself. Furthermore, excessive government interference in personal decisions is a very dangerous precedent to continue to follow.
What's immoral is when you get sick or hurt and not have coverage and then we have to pay your bills because of your lack of foresight.
"we have to pay"
Hey, look at that. You pointed out another problem. No one should *have* to pay for anything. Taxation is extortion. If you disagree, then explain the difference.
A person in dire need needs help. What do we do? Let them die? Is that your solution? Is that why Reagan signed the bill into law that says everyone will be helped.
You live in a mystical theoretical made-up fantasy world of perfect solutions.
Gunfighter, we can argue whether these types of policies are moral or immoral, but that wasn't my point. This policy is similar to Obamacare in that it forces people to take responsibility. The idea to mandate health insurance came from a conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation. In fact, the policy was first implemented by a conservative. Mitt Romney signed it into law in Massachusetts.
So? That argument means nothing to me; I'm a libertarian. Allowing the federal government to *force* personal decisions is a dangerous precedent, no matter how well-intentioned the idea. And you two are the ones who live in a fantasy world if you think the government can solve all of our problems.
I know you are libertarian. If you don't care about the point of my comment, then why did you respond to me? I never said anything about this policy being a good thing.
No! No no no no no. Just no. No more government intrusion. They're the most wasteful, fraudulent and abusive entity in the history of mankind. Stop giving them ideas.
Life insurance is not necessary. Car insurance already is, and under the current system, health insurance should 1) either be required of everyone, no exceptions, or 2) made illegal to have (to insure a true consumer Market in healthcare products).
Both those options for healthcare are awful... there's absolutely no reason to ban health care... and the gov shouldn't be forcing us to give money to private companies
No. That's silly. I am a single person no kids. I don't need life insurance.
I'm not saying that it should be required, but...
Do you have debt? If yes, that debt could land on whoever ends up with your estate.
Do you know what a funeral costs? About 10K.
Just because you don't have a spouse or kids doesn't mean that you don't need life insurance.
Oh please. You have no idea what you are talking about.
If he doesn't have money for a funeral he doesn't get one, simple as that
If he has more debts than assets then the estate is divided up in probate and distributed amongst his creditors. Nothing is passed down to his family and the remaining debt dies with him. ...if the family doesn't have the money for a funeral and he hasn't adequately prepared, the family doesn't even have to claim the body...not ideal if you want to memorialize somebody, but even if you do, a simple cremation can be as cheap as $1500...at least that's how it works in my state.
No. That is none of the federal government's business. People should take a look at the 17 enumerated powers of Congress in the Constitution sometime, in order to see the only things the federal government can meddle in.
Since unpaid costs get forced back on the rest of us to our combined detriment, yes.
I would say that's a relatively small number of people and a relatively small amount each. Some of those probably wouldn't take out a life insurance even if you tried to force them, either because they disagree with it or don't have the money. I wonder how much such a requirement would save. On the other hand think about the millions of us who would have to have an insurance which complied with the requirement, but otherwise have no reason to have one. It would cost us billions.
No but we should require murdering the mentally ill, terminally ill, cripples etc
I know that's a joke
Strain on the state man
Shoot yourself, retard
That is ironically exactly what I'm advocating for, shooting retards
Yeah, start with yourself. You'll be hero and save thousands of lives.
No, if someone doesn't want life insurance then they shouldn't get it. However, life insurance should still exist in our country.
No, that's absolutely ridiculous
not everyone can actually get one
The government should not interfere in the free market.
In some cases, yes it should
But not in this one.
Then why make them have health insurance? :-)
Don't give them ideas, SOH!
Seriously. All these democrat ideas start out sounding like a joke and then the democrats actually adopt them into their platform.
'There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.' - Robert A. Heinlein
Of course not. Government should not force people to buy things.
The government should be the "insurer" not private companies.
Yep -more government is ways better. They are efficient, incorruptible, honest and caring -ask the VA.
For the most part yes get rid of super pacs and make elections only publicly funded if you want to limit corruption.
You Liberals never stop ruining people's lives.
Conservatives ruin a lot of people's lives too…
Because having personal responsibility and taking care of yourself is so awful to you Commies. 😂
Because taking away other people's freedoms and rights is so terrible to you conservatives
It really is when you Communists the away our rights.
What rights are the communists "taking" away from you?
The First and Second Amendments are the most notable ones. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to protect ourselves and our children as we see fit.
Nobody wants to take away freedom of speech or religion…
That I know of at least. I know about the 2nd amendment, I don't agree with that. Can you enlighten me on what you mean by the 1st?
When businesses are being sued over refusing service to people who act in a way that the business does not find religiously right, we know that freedom of religion is being violated.
The Communists banned prayer in schools and sue over nativity scenes.
One Communist was so disgusted by a cross in a small Indiana town that he sued them.
Prayer in PUBLIC schools. Not every student who attends public school is a Christian. If a parent wants their student to get a religious education, there are many private school options.
Before SCOTUS's ruling, Obamacare forced religious people to provide products to people that religious owners found contrary to their religious beliefs. Cowboy is absolutely right that liberals want to eliminate our Constitutional rights. You even admitted that you want to take away our second amendment rights.
Exactly. Thank you for proving me right. ✌🏻
No i didn't. I want a gun myself, when I turn old enough. I fully support the second amendment
But not the First Amendment...
Oh! So you do support the second amendment?
I would assume that you aren't thrilled about the 10th as well.
@cowboy- yes I also support the first amendment. I also support "separation of church and state". Public schools count as part of the state. I just took government class in school and we talked about it a lot. Private schools can be as religious as they want, public schools can't. Because they're PUBLIC. That means students of all religions can attend
Cowboy, as a college student in the most cucked area in the country (DC), I find your comments refreshing.
@political- yes I support the 2nd and 10th as well
It's great that you support the Second Amendment but you can't logically argue that the Communists don't try to ban guns everywhere.
No you don't Jenna. Not if you think religion should be banned. Congress made no law establishing a religion so the separation is intact. I bet you Government teacher didn't educate you in that. What a surprise...
I don't think religion should be banned
Do you support prayer in schools?
It depends. Are you talking about prayers for all religions or just Christianity? And which type of schools? Public or private? Elementary, middle or high?
No it does not depend. You either support free speech or you don't. Which is it?
Yes I support free speech
No - you don't. Free speech is related to freedom of religion.
She obviously doesn't because her Government teacher indoctrinated her with Communist propaganda. Poor thing.
Yes that's exactly what happened
I know. I can tell. I only hope you see the light and realize the bs you've been "taught"
I have an exercise for you Jenna. I'm positive that your Government teacher didn't inform you of this. What was the very first act of the first Congress in 1774?
Freedom of religion means more than just the one YOU practice, cowboy and political. I've never seen so many flash dilemma fallacies in my life!
Since The United States of America was founded on Christian principles, we'll stick with this one since it makes the most logical sense.
The first act of the first Congress in 1774 was to hold a prayer for the new Nation of America. 🙏🏻🇺🇸
I love how they accuse us of trying to get rid of constitutional rights when liberals have been in the forefront of every rights movement in this country. I fully support all amendments to the US constitution. There is a difference between communism and liberalism. Both ideologies are very different from eachother. Who cares if communists want to take away youe guns. They cant and it wont ever happen. Cowboy is an old man on disability that is so bored with his old miserable that he tries in vein to troll.
Exactly what christian principle allows for gay marriage or the second amendment or freedom of religion. America is and has always been a secular country.
Democrats opposed the Civil Rights movement, opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and 1964, started the KKK, had a KKK member in Congress until 2000 and started the abortion movement to control the black population. Good try though.
Nope. Wrong again. America was started with Christian principles.
The Ten Commandments are on the Supreme Court doors.
Democrat is a political party you ignorant old man. Democrats AND Republicans in the south opposed the Civil Rights Act. Remember Goldwater? These are parties and they evolve. Liberals used to be part of the Republican Party before FDR and Wilson. Teddy was a notable Progressive. You ignorance is sad. As for abortion thatbid a tricky issue because it is not clear what would be the liberal or conservative side.
Wrong. Why dont you prove it old man? Why dont you conservatives ever prove anything. The Ten Commandmentd are not law your idiot and they are from thr Jewish Religion, HAHAHAHA.
Yep. The Democrats have always hated blacks.
Nope. Wrong again. The Ten Commandments are on the Supreme Court doors.
LBJ "I'll have those niggers voting Democrat for two hundred years". What a pillar for Civil Rights. Just as Robert Byrd was. A Democrat KKK member of Congress until 2000.
Never said that and does it have the power of the law? No it does not and when was it even put there? President Johnson never said that.
LOL! 😂 You're funny, kid.
No, individual responsibility
Republicans would steal the fund anyway. It would just put us further into debt.
Wow, unbelievable. Keep dividing...it worked so well this past election.
I don't see you commenting this on all the posts that are blaming this on the Democratic Party..whys that?
No erika. Keep conforming to republican policy and you will put a Moderate republican up as the domestic primary and you will have the whole fucking DNC be against the only real liberal running.
What are you talking about Ally?
We have to get rid of the policy all together. Corrupt politicians like Ted Cruz shouldn't have a job.
Angry much Irish? Good lord, calm down. Move on and grow up. If all you can do is bitch & moan versus making a difference, you & your kind will continue to lose. The rest of us will make the best of what we have and live our lives.
Bitching and moaning is how trump became president
The government required health insurance....
How's that working? No more Government!
"No more government" ridiculous.
Gov Programs that require participation!
That means nothing.
Maybe not to you!
No it just means nothing. There's no claim it's just a blank statement.
Why, so the government can tax the death benefit at 40%? No.
The government should not require us to spend money on anything. Taxes are enough.
No, my 401k is my life insurance policy.
Should look into term life if you're healthy. So freaking cheap it's ridiculous.
