In an interview with NPR, Obama advised Trump to not use Executive Orders so much, but to rely on the legislative process instead. I hope Trump uses EO's in a most abusive/aggressive manner in order to make the most change possible. What say you?
Obama thinks he can fool Trump into not using EOs to rescind all of Obama's stupid EOs. He just never will wake up to the fact that he is far from being the smartest person in the room.
Though I understand your sentiment that turnabout is fair play, I think Trump shouldn't experience too great a headwind with a favorable House and Senate. America finally decided it wanted to get 'stuff' done, so let's legislate!
I don't like the concept of executive orders. Obama was a good illustration of why. Since Republicans own Congress, and soon, the Court, hopefully Trump won't have to go down that road too often.
Executive orders are unconstitutional and severely damaging to the health of the Republic. Any President that attempts to create law ought be impeached and removed from office for violating the Constitution.
Executive orders are not unconstitutional, but they would become so if used to create law. In theory they're just supposed to be how the executive controls the executive branch.
Personally, I'd like to see the opposite. I'd like to see only the most dire of EOs continued, and all the others revoked....and no new ones unless the situation proves absolutely necessary.....
I agree. Acting childishly because leftists have been childish teaches leftists nothing.
As much as I'm angered by MrO's unconstitutional use of executive orders, for a conservative administration to use them to the same or greater extent teaches leftists nothing but that they should have misused the power even more.
It's time to draw clear differences between conservatives and progressives. I commit to challenge Mr Trump just like I have Mr Obama for the misuse of EOs.
I think the left would continue to embrace and abuse EOs even if trump never issued a single one. THe right, on the other hand, had better learn how to play the game else they'll continue to be ineffective at advancing a conservative agenda. The old, genteel manner of the republican establishment is a recipe for failure. The NC legislature and their stripping the governor of his power gives me hope that republicans are waking-up to the reality of how politics works these days.
Trump voters did not elect a stodgy, genteel, properly mannered, Romney-like politician for a reason - they're disgusted with the establishments inability to advance conservative goals. They better make use of the next 4 years to claw every inch of progress they can or else they won't come out to vote for him again.
Okie ... I understand your position, but simply disagree. Wouldn't it be better for conservatives to use this opportunity to close the door that was never supposed to be open rather than irresponsibly driving more unlawful activity thru it?
They can't close the door without a constitutional amendment. Nothing short of that can prevent the next president from simply opening it again. A precedent of using EOs properly didn't stop Obama from opening that door and it won't stop the next democrat prez from doing the same. Power is no longer governed by precedent, tradition, common sense, or a notion of fair play. Unless we can get an amendment passed this term then trump has better drain the pen of all its ink.
It's like the democrats invoking the nuclear option in the senate and destroying over 200 years of legislative process just so that they could get their way. When half of the country is fighting the fight unfairly then the other half will lose unless they regain parity by adjusting their methods. We've lost a lot in the last 8 years especially in that most sacred area of marriage law.
Okie ... call me delusional, but I'd like to think we can change for the benefit of the country rather than climb into the progressive gutter with MrO and his corrupt cronies.
I salute your optimism, but you can't reason with someone who thinks the electoral college is racist, men can become women by changing their minds, and who think saying "merry Christmas" is a mistreatment of brown people.
I agree, but nothing like the phone and the pen to get things done quickly. Why wait for a legislative process when you can stroke the pen and BAM! the force of law.
I don't want a President to use EOs excessively regardless of which party he comes from. But, I do want Trump to eliminate most, maybe even all, of Obama's EOs.
If he went Maximus EOs on the democrats do you think they're smart enough to learn a lesson from it or would they just reverse it all when they got back into office? I think that regardless of how trump behaves, the democrats will go Maximus EOs just like Obama did and so it doesn't really matter.
I don't think they'd learn a lesson at all. I think they'd double down on EOs the next time a Dem Prez got in and they'd use Trump's behavior as a justification for theirs.
I hope we see a constant news feed of Trump EOs that leaves the left continually screaming about constitutionality, abuse of power, white power, russia, and whatever else blah blah blah blah blah that makes them cry and feel disenfranchised.
