The 'Fairness Doctrine' required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial public interest matters & air contrasting views. The law was repealed in 1987. Do you think a law like this could help eliminate media bias?

Eh, I feel like all it would do is give people excuses to present ideas like those from the KKK or the radical 'kill all men' feminists like actually valid ideas

Bias, not really. But it'd be better than CNN who never has any discussion of controversial issues! Just bland, neutral BS day in and day out.

Please, bring it back! It seemed to me that we were all forming opinions using the same set of facts back then. It was much, much better before that law was repealed.

Nope won't do it. The rich who own our media will still control the window in which discussion is held and where the ends of differing opinion lies.

No. They would have to somehow get rid of advertising during news programs.

It didn't, as I recall, so it probably wouldn't.

No; allowing some cubicle dwelling troll, deep in the bowls of some government agency, determine what qualifies as "fair" sounds like a bad idea.

No way in hell do I want the government mandating what the media can, cant, and has to broadcast

No. It would be used as a tool by whatever administration is in power to hammer broadcasters that speak or against their viewpoint.

MSNBC would be in a pickle. They would have to tell the truth. Same for CBS, NBC, ABC, and of course, CNN!

I don't want the government charged with determining what the "truth" is. What a cluster that would become.

No, it'll just be used to eliminate conservative viewpoints

Just because they cover it doesn't mean they'll cover it fairly or accurately.
